We are seeking to appoint a Research Assistant to work on a BA/Leverhulme-funded project investigating the pubertal development of facial appearance, parent-child resemblance, and face preferences in a longitudinal parent-child cohort. The primary responsibility will be to delineate (landmark) standardised facial images using specialist software, providing data for geometric morphometric (facial shape) analyses. The postholder will also contribute to the development of an open-source toolkit for modelling facial shape development. Opportunities for involvement in data analysis and writing up may be available. This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain experience with specialist research software, geometric morphometric methods, and open science practices, while working as part of a collaborative research team. Training and support will be provided throughout. Role Responsibilities Research Assistant/Associate Casual Grade 6 Under instruction and following appropriate training: Undertake research as appropriate to the field of study including conducting literature reviews, collecting and analysing data Maintain accurate records of interviews, safeguarding the confidentiality of subjects, as necessary Provide ready access to all experimental data for the faculty researcher and/or supervisor Prepare other articles, reports, and presentations Manage and respond to project related email. Attend project meetings, seminars and other meetings as necessary Essential criteria Good first degree in a related subject (e.g., Psychology, Anthropology, Biology) - Experience with data analysis and analysis software (e.g., SPSS, R) - Willingness to learn basic programming/scripting to support data analysis and toolkit development - Proficiency in using Windows-based software - Proficiency in Microsoft Office (e.g., Excel, Teams) - Excellent attention to detail - Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively Desirable criteria - Master’s degree in a related subject - Familiarity with data protection and GDPR regulations - Programming experience - Image editing experience - Experience with geometric morphometric analysis - Interest in face perception, developmental psychology, or human morphology To apply for the role please complete the online application process, uploading a copy of your CV and covering letter (maximum 2 pages) explaining how you meet the essential and desirable criteria.
