CATERING ASSISTANT – SOUTH WEST NORSE

  • Location: Lucombe House Cafe, County Hall, Exeter, Devon County Council
  • Salary: £13.41 per hour
  • Contract Type: Casual
  • Hours: As required Between 08.00 - 14.00 Monday - Friday, no Evenings, weekends or bank holidays
    South West Norse is the successful service partnership between Devon County Council and Norse Group, delivery a range of essential facilities management services to a growing number of clients in the region.
    We are currently looking to recruit a Catering Assistant to join the team based at Lucombe Café in County Hall.
    We will be providing a full catering service and your role will be to support the kitchen team with food preparation, service delivery and kitchen maintenance. This is a customer facing position, so you will need to be confident engaging with our clients on a daily basis.
    As part of the role, you will be required to deliver food and stock on site using a company van, therefore it is essential you hold a Full UK Driving Licence for the role.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with the preparation and service of food and drink, including hot and cold meals, snacks, and beverages.
  • Operate tills and handle customer payments in line with council financial procedures.
  • Ensure a high standard of cleanliness in all areas of the café, including kitchen, counters, and dining areas.
  • Wash up and clean kitchen equipment, utensils, and work surfaces.
  • Restock supplies and assist with receiving and storing deliveries.
  • Follow all food hygiene, health and safety, and council policies and procedures at all times.
  • Provide excellent customer service in a polite and helpful manner to all customers, including members of the public, staff, and visitors.
  • Work flexibly to support the needs of the café, including cover for absences, special events, or busy periods
  • Previous experience in a catering, kitchen, or café environment.
  • Basic food hygiene knowledge (Level 1 Food Hygiene Certificate or willingness to obtain).
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative.
  • Reliable, punctual, and well-presented.
  • Flexible and adaptable approach to working hours
  • Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate.
  • Experience working in a public sector or local authority setting.
  • Barista experience or knowledge of coffee machine operation
