ABOUT US

The University of Sydney is a leading, comprehensive research and teaching university. We are committed to harnessing the transformative power of education to foster greater knowledge and a better understanding of the world and its people. We are highly influential in shaping Australia’s national and international agenda and delivering solutions to the challenges facing society. We achieve this through critical analysis, intellectual leadership, and active contribution to public debate.
The primary objective is to create and sustain a university in which, for the benefit of both Australia and the wider world, the brightest researchers, and the most promising students, whatever their social or cultural background, can thrive and realise their full potential. This central purpose underpins our strategic goals. It challenges us to develop and support a community of scholars, where interdisciplinary research can flourish and where the student experience is enriched.
The Education Portfolio supports the development and implementation of the University’s strategy and vision for teaching, learning and the student experience. The portfolio contributes to institution-wide developments aimed at improving student learning, including the University’s approach to curriculum renewal, new thinking in pedagogy, learning and teaching analytics, e-learning and quality assurance for learning and teaching. The portfolio also provides strategic direction for students’ engagement in student life, including a well-supported transition to the University, support for academic choices for life and career, and a student experience supportive of the University’s educational aspirations.
