Description

Looking for an amazing housekeeper to join our team at Wander in the Scenic Rim, QLD
Wander offers eco-luxury accommodation in unique regional destinations. We are committed to sustainability and positive community impact – our off-grid WanderPods® use solar power, rainwater harvesting, greywater recycling, and aim for zero-waste operations Wander in the Scenic Rim is a collection of five light-touch luxury cabins set on 1,200 acres of untouched bushland at The Overflow 1895 estate, overlooking Lake Wyaralong. Just 1.5 hours from Brisbane or the Gold Coast, this property immerses guests in nature’s beauty and our ethos of “luxury of time, space and stillness”.
Role Overview
We are seeking a Casual Housekeeper to join our Scenic Rim team. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and comfort of five off-grid luxury cabins (WanderPods) to the highest standards. This position is casual – hours will vary based on occupancy, with cleaning turnarounds only required on guest check-out days (no daily in-stay servicing). Typical shifts are from 11:00am to 3:00pm, aligning with our 11am check-out and 3pm check-in. Weekend and public holiday work may be required, as these are peak check-out times. Uniform and all cleaning equipment are provided to ensure you have everything needed to uphold Wander’s eco-friendly cleaning practices and luxury presentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clean & Reset Cabins: Thoroughly clean each cabin after guest check-out, including bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen, and living areas. This involves making beds with fresh linen, dusting, sweeping/vacuuming floors, mopping, cleaning windows, and sanitising all surfaces and high-touch points.
  • Eco-Friendly Practices: Use eco-friendly cleaning products and methods in line with Wander’s sustainability ethos (e.g. non-toxic cleaners, proper waste sorting for recycling/compost). Ensure minimal water and chemical use without compromising quality, supporting our mission to “approach zero-waste operations” in off-grid settings.
  • Linen & Laundry: Change bedding and towels after each stay. Inspect linens for wear or damage and report if replacements are needed.
  • Restocking & Presentation: Replenish guest amenities and supplies (soaps, compostable bags, pantry items, etc.) according to our inventory list. Empty waste bins and remove rubbish, compost organic waste via the compose system on-site, and secure the cabin so it’s guest-ready. Create a welcoming ambiance in each WanderPod, paying attention to detail so that everything from the toiletries to the furniture placement is in pristine condition for the next arrival.
  • Maintenance Reporting: While cleaning, notice and report any maintenance or safety issues (e.g. damages, malfunctions, low supplies) to the site manager or operations team promptly. As the eyes on the ground, the housekeeper helps ensure any issues are addressed before the next guest checks in.
  • Compliance & Safety: Follow all health and safety guidelines during cleaning (use correct PPE when needed, safely handle cleaning chemicals, etc.). Ensure that security protocols are followed when entering/exiting pods (e.g. securing doors, gates on the property). Maintain confidentiality and respect guests’ privacy at all times.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience: Previous experience in housekeeping or professional cleaning (ideally in hotels, luxury accommodation or holiday parks) is required. Experience in hospitality settings and knowledge of hotel-level cleaning standards will be highly regarded.
  • Attention to Detail: Excellent attention to detail is a must – you take pride in spotting and cleaning even the smallest mess or out-of-place item. You understand that our guests expect immaculate cabins, and you strive for a perfect presentation every time.
  • Eco-Conscious Mindset: A genuine interest or familiarity with eco-friendly cleaning practices and sustainable living. You should be willing to use non-toxic cleaners and follow procedures that align with Wander’s environmental ethos. Training will be provided on our specific systems (property management app, solar, greywater, compost), but a mindset that values sustainability is essential.
  • Reliability & Independence: Strong work ethic with the ability to work independently in a remote bushland setting. Reliability is crucial – you consistently show up on time for scheduled cleanings, especially on weekends or changeover days.
  • Physical Capability: Physically fit and able to perform manual cleaning tasks (bending, lifting, walking between pods) within the 4-hour turnaround window. The property is spread out in nature, so you must be comfortable with walking outdoors and occasional Queensland weather conditions while working.
  • Transportation: The Scenic Rim location is approximately 20 minutes from Beaudesert and not serviced by public transport. Having a valid driver’s license and your own reliable transport to get to property for shifts is required.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to work on a flexible, on-call schedule. Our guest check-out patterns can vary, and we may need you on different weekdays or weekends. We provide rosters in advance whenever possible, but some adaptability with hours (including public holidays) is needed in hospitality.
  • Professionalism: Friendly, honest, and professional demeanor. While you won’t usually interact with guests (cleaning is done post check-out), you are indirectly an ambassador of the Wander brand through the quality of your work. Being trustworthy and able to work unsupervised is essential.

What We Offer

  • All Equipment Supplied: We provide a Wander uniform and all necessary cleaning equipment and supplies. You’ll have access to our eco-friendly cleaning products and tools required to get the job done safely and effectively.
  • Training & Support: Training will be provided on our standards of luxury cleaning and sustainable operations. You’ll learn how to operate within off-grid systems (e.g. managing generator or water usage if needed) and uphold Wander’s quality and sustainability benchmarks. Ongoing support from our local operations team is available whenever issues arise.
  • Beautiful Work Environment: This role lets you work amidst the stunning scenery of the Scenic Rim. Our WanderPods are set in a tranquil natural environment – your “office” views will include lakefront sunsets and Australian bushland. For those who love nature, this is a chance to escape the typical city hotel setting and enjoy a peaceful atmosphere on the job.
  • Mission-Driven Company: Be part of a company that values sustainability, community, and transformative travel. Wander is committed to regenerating regional areas and creating meaningful experiences. As a housekeeper, you directly contribute to this mission by creating a welcoming space that connects guests with nature and local culture.
  • Flexibility: A casual position offers flexibility – it could suit someone living locally who wants daytime work that still leaves your mornings and late afternoons free. We offer a competitive hourly rate and will schedule shifts based on cabin turnover needs.

Join us at Wander Scenic Rim and help deliver an unforgettable eco-luxury experience for our guests. If you have an eye for detail, take pride in your work, and share our passion for sustainability and hospitality, we’d love to hear from you. Apply today to become a part of the Wander journey in the Scenic Rim!
