“Please note a CV is not required as part of the application process for this role” We are looking for nine students with a passion for Durham University, an open and outgoing attitude, and a willingness to share their student experiences on 'The Durham Student' social media channels. You will be an advocate for your college and the University with the proven ability of creating content for, YouTube, TikTok, Instagram and writing Blogs. You will join a team of 17 students called ‘The Durham Student’ who create and manage content for our student run social media channels. Two members of the team answer queries on The Student Room, a popular Q&A platform for potential students. Your role as 'Content Creator' will be to create content about your day-to-day student life that potential students would find interesting with the aim for them to apply to study at Durham. You can do this in a number of ways. Video content Filming and editing video content for YouTube, Tik Tok and Instagram. This may include vlog style videos as well as tours of campus, colleges, departments and covering events. We do have some equipment available but in the main, you will be required to use your own camera or phone. You will be directed in what topics to cover based on our market research and what the 'chat' is on The Student Room, you will still have the freedom to be creative in the way you do this and to suggest and develop ideas for video content that will appeal to our target market, potential students. Photography You will have a keen eye for photography and enjoy taking pictures of Durham and student life at Durham. You must have knowledge of Instagram and the type of content that is appealing to our target market. You will document your student life and invite other students to share theirs. You will generate ideas to increase followers and engagement and share these with the channel coordinators. Other responsibilities If you enjoy writing, there is the opportunity to publish blogs about student life at Durham. The blogs will be published on the University blog site and promoted on social media. You will suggest and develop ideas for blogs by consulting with current Durham University students to gather ideas, collate and relay student experience stories that would appeal to our target market. We may ask you to cover certain subjects/events we deem appropriate. You may also be asked to take part in photoshoots or filming for university publications e.g., the prospectus or international recruitment campaigns, and conduct evaluation and review of our marketing materials. You will also be required to support key external projects e.g., Lumiere by providing a student viewpoint. You may also be asked to contribute responses to questions from potential students on The Student Room. We employ two Student Room Reps to specifically do this, but they may from time to time require assistance from the wider team. We may ask you to follow your student journey throughout the time you are at Durham. The roles will be reviewed yearly. · An interest in marketing and communications. · In-depth working knowledge of common social media platforms, such as Instagram, YouTube and Tik Tok. · Filming and editing skills, especially in relation to vlog-style content. · Excellent communication skills. · Good organisation skills and the ability to pay close attention to detail. · Friendly, professional manner. · A creative approach to problem solving and idea generation. · Ability to quickly establish effective working relationships with students and university staff. · An appreciation and understanding of the need for confidentiality at all times. · Reliable, punctual and enthusiastic. · Ability to work effectively as part of a team and using own initiative. Role Responsibilities Communications Assistant Casual rate Under instruction and following appropriate training: Proactively seek news stories and engagement opportunities from relevant stakeholders Create content for various communication methods, consulting with colleagues before publishing/posting where necessary. Develop and maintain communication tools, which may include the department’s social media accounts and internal and external webpages associated to the department. Develop communication templates for use within the department, for example emails, webpages, and social media posts To apply for this role, you will be required to · Film, edit and upload a short video. · Submit three photographs and captions. Your video should include: · An introduction to you and why you are interested in this role. · An outline of the skills and experience you can bring to the role. · A tour of your favourite place in Durham - this can be anywhere you like e.g., a cafe, park, building etc. Your video can be in whichever style you prefer and should show your creativity. Max 1 minute video. Please share a link to your video which could be a YouTube link OR a link to the video saved on SharePoint (please grant appropriate permissions so that we can download this). · Your photographs and captions should include: · Three photographs that you are proud of, that you feel would be suitable for sharing on Instagram. These can be of any subject that relates to being a student at Durham. · Please also provide a suitable Instagram caption for each, including any relevant hashtags.
