Edmonton Catholic Schools is seeking casual Early Childhood Educators to work collaboratively with the school team, and in particular the Half-Day Kindergarten teachers where Extensions programming is offered. Early Childhood Education Diploma and a minimum of three years experience as Lead Educator is a requirement for this position. French or Spanish language skills are an asset. Successful candidates are expected to create early learning experiences and environments that support learning through play. The incumbent guides play and documents children’s progress. The job is involved in planning inquiry-based programming that follows the Alberta Early Learning and Care Framework (FLIGHT) and is responsible for providing an enriched environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Diploma in Early Childhood, plus three years of directly related experience
  • Early Childhood Supervisor Certification
  • French and /or Spanish language proficiency is an asset
  • Early learning specialization (courses to include child development, communication, emergent curriculum and environments)
  • Knowledge of the challenges and strengths of English Language Learners (ELL) and settlement services in the community.
  • Knowledge of community and program development best practices
  • Knowledge of emerging multi-media technology and equipment, Microsoft programs including Excel, Outlook and databases
  • Knowledge of program planning and project management techniques
  • Knowledge of workplace safety and awareness of Occupational Health and Safety regulations
  • Strong teamwork skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively with school teams
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to influence decisions
  • Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to manage conflicting priorities
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate technical information

Responsibilities
  • Explore early learning play experiences including art, music, and drama
  • Collaborate in the creation of developmentally appropriate play experiences
  • Consult and collaborate with teacher and multi-disciplinary team (MDT) members to ensure continuity with strategies and support for children with diverse needs
  • Assist in the design and adaption of customized programming to address cultural needs
  • Design and develop programming based on student interest and in collaboration with the school team
  • Use the FLIGHT framework to plan experiences that enhance development and dispositions to learn
  • Maintain child documentation for visible learning (I.E – learning stories and portfolios as outlined in the FLIGHT framework)
  • Communicate with families to share child’s experiences and developmental growth
  • Mediate with children, families, and staff to resolve problems
  • Collaborate with outside agencies
  • Provide personal and physical care
  • Provide social and language development support
  • Work closely with children to nurture relationships and foster growth
  • Build relationships with post-secondary institutes to facilitate student field placements
