It aims to assist students to become independent, critical and lifelong learners and to maximise their potential for success in an Australian university context. About the role In this position, you will be responsible for the teaching delivery of one or more of RMIT UP’s four Foundation Studies Mathematics courses. Duties include assessment, monitoring academic progress of students, contributing to the development of the Foundation Studies curriculum and providing an outstanding student experience. This course is designed to introduce Foundation STEM students to a range of Mathematic principles spanning four key areas; General Mathematics, Advanced Mathematics, Applied Mathematics (Engineering and Science) and Statistics and Probability. Key subject themes include: General Mathematics: This skill-based course introduces the mathematical skills required for further tertiary study developing knowledge of linear algebra, networks, vectors, matrices, measurement and trigonometry. Learners gain a firm foundation in analysis, problem solving and the use of technology. Advanced Mathematics: Skill-based course focussed on developing the necessary knowledge students require for further tertiary-level study in the fields of engineering and applied science. Learners develop an understanding of financial mathematics, algebra and functions, exponentials, logarithms and circular functions which provides a firm foundation in mathematical analysis and problem solving. Applied Mathematics (Engineering and Science): This course builds on the knowledge acquired in Advanced Mathematics targeting mathematical skills required for further tertiary-level study in the fields of engineering and applied science. Learners develop an understanding of integral and differential calculus, differential equations, numerical methods and complex numbers, which will provide a firm foundation in analysis, problem solving and the use of technology. Statistics and Probability: This skill-based course introduces the mathematical skills required for further tertiary study developing knowledge of univariate and bivariate data, time series, probability and their distributions, sampling and hypothesis testing. Demonstrated skills and experience in delivering and assessing Foundation Studies or equivalent courses Capacity to identify learning problems in students, propose and implement effective strategies Demonstrated ability to contribute effectively as a constructive and proactive member of a team Demonstrated skills in the use of relevant information and communication technologies Desirable Experience teaching in a Foundation Studies or a year 12 equivalent program educating international students; Experience teaching in a tertiary setting. TESOL (English Language Teaching Qualification) for teachers responsible for English subject areas.
