POSITION SUMMARY

This is a casual part time Health Information Management Professional remote (at home) position with flexible hours. This role requires you to abstract and code inpatient (DAD) information based on ICD-10/CA/CCI. The Health Information Management Professional is responsible for the interpretation of source documents located in the patient medical record and applies code assignment by selecting and assigning numeric codes from the classification systems to represent diagnostic and intervention data. Accurate code assignment involves interpretation and application of coding instructions, guidelines, conventions, standards, policies, rules and ethics.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Code and abstract patient information in accordance with CIHI guidelines, hospital policies and procedures, and established hospital guidelines
  • Read and interpret health record documentation to identify all diagnoses and procedures
  • Inpatient (DAD) coding experience mandatory
  • Able to work up to 4 shifts a month

MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have a CHIM certification
  • Highly motivated and self directed
  • Proficient in the use of ICD10 CCI coding system and MED2020
  • Ability to co-ordinate multiple initiatives effectively, including the initiation and positive paradigm of change
  • Knowledge of computerized : Admissions, MRI, Abstracting Grouper and Report Writer Systems
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent oral, interpersonal, and written communication skills
  • Intermediate computer skills, utilizing Microsoft software such as: Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Current registration with the Canadian Health Information Management Association (mandatory)
