SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

To succeed in the role, you will possess the following:

  • Completed Psychiatric Registered Nurse training
  • Current AHPRA registration
  • Professional post graduate experience as a Psychiatric Nurse
  • Competence in the performance of medical emergency, physical assessment, crisis intervention, medical & psychiatric nursing care and venipuncture preferable
  • Ability to work without direct, immediate supervision in performing psychiatric evaluations
  • Providing appropriate follow through treatment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Equal Employment Opportunity, GEO’s Affirmative Action Plan and Workplace Health and Safety principles.
  • Information Technology knowledge and skills relevant to role

Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Define and maintain the standard of nursing practice within the Correctional Centre
  • Develop mental health nursing care plans for prisoners with a P rating
  • Coordinate and undertake physical and mental health assessments on all new receptions entering the Correctional Centre
  • Develop and implement suicide / self-harm strategies and regularly assess their effectivenes
