Junior Scientist Intern Junior Scientist is a programme of educational and fun activities for primary school aged children held in the school summer holidays, run by a team of academics, researchers and a team from the Department of Psychology. As part of the event, families can book on to a free 2.5 hour session during the 3-day programme in August (25th-27th August, school summer holidays), where they come along and engage in a host of fun activities and take part in research studies. The event is generously supported by Collingwood College, who allow us to host the event in college space free of charge. The event is designed to have a positive impact on our local community while promoting and supporting ongoing research that involves children - children take part in research while attending the JS event. This is not just about outreach, it is about diverse, inclusive, and reproducible research. We are looking for 3 enthusiastic and motivated Psychology PGR students to join the Junior Scientist Organising Team. Each team member will have a different portfolio of responsibilities, and these will be either : 1) Social media and advertising, material development (flyers), co-ordinating UG volunteers; 2) Bookings, emails, and registrations, admin tasks such as organising badge system; and 3) Activity development and lead for the neurodiversity session. Although each intern will take the lead with a set of responsibilities, it is anticipated that they will support the work of each other. Funds for each intern role will support the intern to be present during the three days of the event in August (21 hours), as well as covering 17 hours of preparatory work. Preparatory work will involve participating in Junior Scientist committee meetings, as well as delivering on portfolio responsibilities. The below role descriptor seeks to capture the main requirements of the role consistently, providing a summary of the key duties of the flexible role to help in setting expectations for applicants, flexible workers and line managers. They are not intended to cover all duties which may be required. Role Responsibilities Research Intern Casual rate Under instruction and following appropriate training from the Junior scientist Leads: Work alongside the team to contribute to the delivery of Junior Scientist Develop experience and skills from working in a real-world research environment Contribute specific skills (i.e. technical, research, subject specific knowledge) to the research work of the department via Junior Scientist Plan and prioritise own work, adhering to agreed deliverables and timeframes and referring any issues with workload or timeframes to colleagues To apply for the role, you must be enrolled as a PGR student within the Department of Psychology and have experience of working with children and/or families.
