Property and Facilities Multiple Casual opportunities available Salary rate is $44.67 per hour (incl 25% casual loading) + 12% super Based at our picturesque St Lucia Campus About This Opportunity Join The University of Queensland (UQ) as a Security Officer, ensuring the safety and security of our buildings, grounds, staff, students, and visitors. Our Security Officers provide professional, high-quality service while upholding UQ’s Standards of Operation and Personal Conduct. Key Responsibilities: Respond to alarms, medical and fire emergencies, and security incidents. Operate the Central Security Monitoring Station (CSMS). Assist with public, staff, and student inquiries and complaints. Conduct patrols, lock/unlock buildings, and manage access for authorized personnel. Administer First Aid as required. Enforce parking and traffic regulations. Conduct preliminary investigations and prepare detailed reports. Report urgent matters to the Security Supervisor. Perform additional duties as directed by security management. Please note: A successful applicant will need to have full availability to attend 2 weeks full-time training. Due to the size of the campus, this role involves extensive walking and regular outdoor patrols in varying weather conditions. A reasonable level of physical fitness is required to meet the demands of the position. Sound interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with a large variety of individuals, both internal and external to the University. Demonstrated proficiency with security software and programs and the ability to produce and analyse reports in a timely manner. Demonstrated ability to work with minimum supervision and to efficiently and effectively organise the work under your jurisdiction within strict deadlines. The ability to exercise tact and restrain in the face of direct provocation or occasional unfair criticism Demonstrated experience effectively dealing with emergency situations arising during the course of duty, such as student demonstrations. Previous experience as a Security Officer at the University of Queensland or similar organization is desirable. The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including: right to work in Australia, Criminal Check and a Medical Check.
