The Agency:
The John Howard Society of Red Deer is a non-profit organization working to promote community harmony through the advocation of human dignity and social justice. We support and serve those involved in the justice system through a restorative process and believe in treating every person with fairness, dignity and compassion while holding each person accountable for their own behavior.
The Program:
Horizon House is a Community Residential Facility (CRF) contracted by Correctional Services of Canada that provides housing, support and supervision to federal offenders (both male and female) upon their conditional release to the community. We work to successfully support offenders during the reintegration phase of their sentences as well as to assess and mitigate risk during the process.
The Position:
The Casual Support Worker is responsible for completing day to day clerical tasks, and for monitoring and documenting residents’ movement in the house as well as for the verification/tracking of residents’ daily activities in the community. The successful candidate will be a team player who displays strong professional boundaries, is detail oriented, organized and mature. They will feel comfortable interacting with offenders convicted of a wide range of offenses and will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. A basic understanding of community corrections and familiarity with addictions and/or mental health needs would be a great asset.
Hours and Compensation:
Applicants must be willing and able to work shift work (8 to 10 hour shifts) at a minimum of 4 shifts per month. Only applicants who have a flexible schedule and are available for weekends and overnight shifts will be considered. Applicants should clearly indicate their availability upon applying.
Compensation is based on educational background, experience and suitability and starts at $20/hr. Training and wages will be discussed with the successful candidate prior to their start date.
Requirements:
· The ability to obtain a clean advanced criminal record check (Reliability B)
· Standard First Aid/CPR
· A post-secondary certificate/diploma (or equivalent) in a relevant human services field
