The St. Louis Public Library is looking for a Cataloging Specialist to help us make our materials available to customers efficiently and accurately. The Cataloging Specialist is responsible for entering data in the catalog according to national standards so staff and customers can locate library materials.  Our ideal candidate is someone who can balance speed and accuracy. The Cataloging Specialist must be able to learn how to interpret and apply national and local standards uniformly.  In this role you will: * Input bibliographic records into the catalog; edited to match our local standards.  * Provide a classification for every item in the catalog. * Contribute to authority control efforts.  * Participate in changing subject/genre headings, relabeling projects, and other metadata clean-up projects. * Suggest ways to simplify procedures or policies that relate to the catalog when possible. You will need to be: * Flexible, positive, and willing to work with staff and colleagues to successfully overcome challenges. * Organized, detail-oriented, and able to work with competing tasks and priorities. * Friendly, patient, and able to build relationships at all levels. * Able to see the big picture and promote consistency and excellence of service. * Capable of effectively responding to questions from customers and staff.
