Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI) has a vacancy for a Catchment Officer – Nature Based Solutions to join the FLOW project team in the Research and Development (R&D) division. The FLOW Project is supported by PEACEPLUS, a programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB).
This role will involve implementing nature-based solutions (NbS) at locations in Lough Melvin sub-catchments with an aim to improve instream habitat. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in catchment management and nature-based solutions, with a focus on improving water quality. They will be skilled in identifying and prioritising instream and riparian interventions, working closely with landowners to co-design and deliver effective solutions. With excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, they will build trusted relationships with stakeholders and partners. The candidate will also support project delivery through tender oversight, environmental impact assessments, and clear reporting across all project activities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The appointee will operate within the Lough Melvin catchment to progress the FLOW project’s Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) objectives. They will play a central role in identifying and prioritising instream, riparian, and other NbS interventions aimed at enhancing water quality across Lough Melvin’s sub-catchments. Working closely with landowners, the appointee will lead the development of agreed NbS work programmes, from initial design through to on-the-ground delivery. They will collaborate with project partners to ensure the successful implementation of all related tasks, including managing tender processes, and coordinating appropriate assessment screenings and associated reports.

The main responsibilities will include:

  • Day to day delivery of the FLOW project (NbS element) under the guidance of the Senior Research Officer/Research Officer.

Implementation & Supervision of Nature-Based Solutions (NbS)

  • Supervise the delivery of NbS works, ensuring projects are completed to agreed specifications, timelines, and environmental standards.
  • Assist in implementing a monitoring programme to evaluate the success of instream and riparian measures, including both pre- and post-works assessments.
  • Liaise and coordinate with contract staff to ensure effective delivery of project works.
  • Supervise seasonal staff during project activities.
