Category Assistant, Role Specific Accountabilities:

  • Product Development Support: Coordinate and support product development and assortment activities, ensuring alignment with category strategy and compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
  • Purchase Execution: Execute purchase activities and opportunities according to approved product plans and strategies.
  • Effective Communication: Facilitate clear communication with all support teams regarding products, and provide stores with relevant information to assist with purchasing decisions and quantification.
  • SKU and Assortment Management: Support the completion and production of SKU and assortment-related information within timelines and activities detailed in the Buying or Planogram Calendar to minimize disruptions.
  • Strategic Marketing Support: Assist in strategic marketing activities for all commodities to ensure marketing objectives are accurately met.

Category Assistant, Required Knowledge & Skills:

  • Educational Background: Degree or diploma in Business, Management, or equivalent.
  • Experience: 0-3 years of related experience (grocery retail experience is an asset).
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to solve problems and make adjustments on simple issues.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Retail Mathematics: Understanding of retail mathematics related to sales, profitability, and inventory.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Time Management: Effective time management, organization, and prioritization skills.
  • Product Passion: Enthusiasm for products and a passion for serving the Giant Tiger customer.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Category Assistant, Preferred Assets:

  • Language Skills: Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset.
  • Financial Acumen: Strong understanding of financial principles.
