Description

Overview:
This position is responsible for the development and implementation of category business plans within assigned categories that align overall with department and company strategies. The Fresh Baked Category Manager plans and directs all aspects of product and program development, pricing, and promotions, and initiatives that are in line with overall department objectives, with oversight from the department Director. The Fresh Baked Category Manager utilizes analytics and industry trends to develop and launch initiatives to meet targeted expectations and align with customer needs. This position is also responsible for the achievement of sales objectives, profitability goals, market share and competitive position strategies.

Essential Functions:

  • Create new and innovative Fresh Baked programs and products to differentiate Sprouts
  • Analyze sales and margin to drive assortment decisions, go to market plans, including pricing, promo and merchandising
  • Identify trends and scale them through upstream and in-store Bakery solutions
  • Develop and execute long and short-range category strategies
  • Budget and monitor sales and margin plans of assigned categories
  • Maintain knowledge of customer needs state, competitive landscape and industry trends
  • Partner with Store Operations on labor, processes and standards
  • Work cross functionally with various teams to develop and execute strategies on product innovation and improvement; presentation, packing, pricing, assortment, marketing and shrink
  • Provide excellent store support through timely responses and data driven decisions
  • Develop and maintain strong vendor partnerships and work collaboratively to build and execute the product development pipeline
  • Create clear, actionable merchandising directives and promotional plans for Operations and stores to execute successfully
  • Develop and deliver training materials to build store-level expertise in product knowledge, merchandising, and execution
  • Support and act as a liaison between Sprouts stores and vendors to assure quality products and department standards are being are being delivered
  • Maintain awareness of Sprouts Marketing strategies and competitive activity

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Physical Requirements:

  • Preferred Bachelor Degree in Business or related field with a minimum of five (5) years of experience, with experience as Merchandiser or Manager preferred
  • At least 1 year of Category Management experience
  • Negotiating experience required
  • Requires long-term strategic and financial planning skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Power BI, Outlook and the Internet
  • Ability to preserve confidentiality of information, communicate with all levels of management and work within strict time frames and resolute deadlines
  • Complete understanding of P/L statements, general ledgers, and margins
  • Some travel required
