JOB SUMMARY:
The Category Procurement Manager Inbound Transportation works under the direction of the department head or assigned designee on the developing and implementation of effective procurement strategies, from initial identification of procurement needs through delivery, for indirect goods and services. Contributes in the planning, development, management and implementation of procurement strategic initiatives that align with the Company goals for reducing costs and meeting financial expectations, while managing vendor relationships.
Sustains the negotiation, coordination, and assures that assigned indirect spend categories and services are purchased at the best possible cost. Assesses near-term and long-term plans to establish that supplier priorities and KPIs are balanced with business needs; consults with Sr. Management and other subject matter experts to develop alternative solutions; advises on options, risks, total cost of ownership, and business impacts.
The role will focus on Walgreens 3rd party transportation solutions with the category surrounding the activities related to all modes of transportation in the Walgreens supply chain, consisting of Truckload, Intermodal, LTL, Ocean and Drayage.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years of procurement experience in OR High School/GED and at least 5 years of procurement experience
- Experience working with business and/or procurement lifecycles and best practices.
- Experience in negotiations and developing/executing strategies.
- Experience collaborating with internal and external resources to develop strategies that meet department goals within budget and established timelines.
- Experience managing projects and/or cross functional teams.
- At least 1 year of direct leadership, indirect leadership and/or cross-functional team leadership.Willing to travel up to/at least 10% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- The ideal candidate will have a background in procuring transportation rates and capacity from a shippers’ or retailers’ perspective.
- Significant experience in negotiating transportation lanes through formal RFPs and direct negotiations for one or more of the following modes of transportation: Truckload, Intermodal, LTL, Ocean and/or Drayage
- Experience in negotiating Master Service Agreements and Task Orders with transportation providers
- Strong grasp on transportation markets and industry knowledge
- Experience in building collaborative relationships, both internally and externally, acting as a subject matter expert and strategic partner to stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s Degree and at least 5 combined years of procurement process experience/transportation related experience.
- At least 3 years of experience in negotiating deals.
- Intermediate level skill in Microsoft Excel (for example: basic functions and formulas as well as the use of pivot tables to analyze data and create reports.
- Intermediate level skill in Microsoft PowerPoint to create presentations to be shared with senior leadership team members.
- Intermediate level skill in Microsoft Word in relation to redlines for contract negotiations and creating SOPs.
