Category Specialist, Retail Merchandising – Pleasanton, California
We are currently seeking a Category Specialist to support the Category Management team with key initiatives and day-to-day execution. This role will work across departments and with external vendors to help drive category performance and ensure the success of in-store and digital merchandising programs.

Responsibilities
  • Actively participate in supplier/vendor meetings to support promotional and product strategies
  • Facilitate collaboration and execution with the Price Book, Loyalty, and Promotional Guide teams
  • Support multiple category programs and initiatives with flexibility and adaptability
  • Contribute to point-of-purchase (POP) design by offering input on creative ideas, costing, forecasting, and managing digital menu boards
  • Support Category Managers with category reviews, data analysis, and presentation development
  • Complete ad hoc projects and contribute to new program development
  • Serve as point of contact for category issues in the absence of the Category Manager
  • Partner with the Rebate team to ensure proper rebate processing and payment collection
  • Monitor supplier performance, including promotion conversion and sales gap reporting
  • Support resolution of pricing, invoicing, and general category-related issues
  • Manage the setup and ongoing maintenance of new and existing items
  • Generate and maintain sales, margin, and promotional performance reports
  • Analyze category sales trends and provide actionable insights
  • Create and maintain field communications, process documentation, and training resources
  • Coordinate closely with Sales Builder Specialist and Loyalty Manager to ensure alignment and accurate promotion data entry
  • Collaborate with Price Book, suppliers, and stores on vendor setup, item pricing, and placement—working closely with the Space Planning team
  • Partner with field teams to ensure successful execution of planograms and merchandising programs
  • Perform other duties as assigned

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, or related field
  • 3–5 years of experience in the retail, convenience store, or category management environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), Outlook, and analytical tools
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities across cross-functional stakeholders
  • Self-motivated with strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Strong time management abilities and the capacity to meet multiple deadlines in a dynamic environment
