The St. Clair Catholic District School Board is seeking a strong teacher to join its Student Support Services Team as a Catholic Indigenous Education Consultant. This position will include responsibilities for Indigenous Education; leading equity, inclusion and diversity initiatives; community partnerships; curriculum support and land-based learning opportunities.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • OCT qualifications in minimum of 3 Divisions.
  • Religious Education, Part 1 (Specialist qualification preferred).
  • The completion or partial completion of a Masters in Education would be considered an asset.
  • Experience working and collaborating with First Nation, Métis and Inuit students, families, communities and organizations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Ontario FMNI framework and implementation plan.
  • Experience providing and/or facilitating adult learning, professional learning and training.
  • Excellent communication, coordination and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team environment.
  • Experience and familiarity with curriculum review, development and implementation.
  • Experience and leadership in curriculum an asset.
  • Experience facilitating professional development within school and/or system an asset.
  • Experience working and/or leading Ministry initiatives an asset.
  • Ability to lead and motivate collaborative work teams an asset.
Responsibilities
  • Work closely with Senior Board Administration to implement the goals of the Ontario First Nation, Métis and Inuit Education Policy Framework and the Ontario First Nation, Métis and Inuit Education Policy Framework Implementation Plan across the system.
  • Support the implementation of the Framework and the Implementation Plan through Board Action Plans.
  • Work closely with Indigenous Education Advisory Committees/Councils to develop and implement Board Action Plans.
  • Collaborate and liaise with local First Nation, Métis and Inuit communities, organizations, students and families.
  • Support efforts to build the knowledge and awareness of all students about Indigenous histories, cultures, perspectives and contributions.
  • Further support the implementation of voluntary and confidential Indigenous self-identification policies for the Board and reviewing the policy as needed.
  • Facilitate professional development opportunities for teaching staff to assist them in incorporating culturally appropriate pedagogy into practice to support Aboriginal student achievement, well-being, and success.
  • Work in professional learning communities within schools and with Board curriculum team.
  • Represent the Board in various projects with external curriculum partners.
  • Provide a strong Catholic focus in any related curriculum initiatives and projects.
