Application Deadline: Tuesday, October 14th at 4pm ABOUT THE CALIFORNIA VIRTUAL ACADEMIES AND THE POSITION:   The California Virtual Academies (a network of 9 public charter schools) delivers online/virtual home based instruction to students in grades TK-12 in California. We use K12, inc. as our curriculum provider for the basis of instruction and teachers provide live instruction via the Engageli platform. While our schools do offer some scheduling flexibility, students are still required to log into the online school daily, complete coursework, and attend instructional sessions.  A student information specialist works among a team that is dedicated to state reporting and data entry. The student information specialist will work with CALPADs and School Pathways to ensure student data is accurate and reported correctly. HOURS AND SALARY INFORMATION:  Full Time: Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm You are not allowed to have another job during these contracted hours. Full time Student Support Specialists: $24.25 per hour We do participate in CalPERS. Job Description     Job Title: Student Information Specialist   Reports To: Director of Accountability  FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Department: Accountability Department    Summary:  The Student Information Systems (SIS) Specialist ensures the effective collection, analysis, maintenance, and reporting of data for students of multiple schools within California’s Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System (CALPADS), local databases and systems and state testing systems, and K12’s student information systems for a highly dynamic, virtual school environment.   Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  * Accurately maintains the school’s student records in California’s Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data Systems (CALPADS); Liaises with coordinators throughout the state to clarify anomalies with other schools. * Performs data entry into the student information system (SIS); Verifies accuracy, corrects errors, and resolves issues.  * Implements and enforces audits of student files on an ongoing basis as directed by the Student Information Coordinator.  * Capacity to work effectively and efficiently, with a high degree of accuracy, in local databases and systems, state testing systems, and K12’s student information systems are requisite for success in this role in our commitment to ensure a high-functioning team and virtual school environment. * Provides State Reporting support. * Other duties as required by the Director of Accountability  *Please note that everything herein is subject to change    Education/Experience: * Strong written and oral communication skills  * Preferred Two (2) years of data management experience in a Student Information System and/or CALPADs.  * Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook  * Self-directed but able to work as part of a team.  * Strong leadership skills * Proficient with data entry/using databases; Web proficiency.   Competencies: Adaptability: Accepts criticism and feedback; Adapts to changes in the work environment; Changes approach or method to best fit the situation; Manages competing demands; Inspires the trust of others; Keeps commitments; Treats people with respect; Upholds organizational values; Works with integrity and ethically.   Communications: Exhibits good listening and comprehension; Expresses ideas and thoughts in written form; Expresses ideas and thoughts verbally; Keeps others adequately informed; Selects and uses appropriate communication methods.   Dependability: Commits to doing the best job possible; Follows instructions responds to management direction; Keeps commitments; Meets attendance and punctuality guidelines; Responds to requests for service and assistance; Takes responsibility for own actions.   Job Knowledge: Competent in required job skills and knowledge; Displays understanding of how job relates to others; Exhibits ability to learn and apply new skills; Keeps abreast of current developments.  Requires minimal supervision; Uses resources effectively.   Planning & Organization: Integrates changes smoothly; Plans for additional resources; Prioritizes and plans work activities; Sets goals and objectives; Uses time efficiently; Works in an organized manner.   Quality: Applies feedback to improve performance; Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness; Displays commitment to excellence; Looks for ways to improve and promote quality; Monitors own work to ensure quality.   Use of Technology: Adapts to new technologies; Demonstrates required skills; Keeps technical skills up to date; Troubleshoots technological problems; Uses technology to increase productivity.     Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should know Microsoft Office Suite and experience using a student information system and/or other database software.  Experience moderating web meetings (Blackboard Collaborate, Webinar, Webex) for small and large groups.   Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here represent those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
