Description JOB TITLE: Assistant Teacher REPORTS TO: CDC Director or as assigned LOCATION: W. L. Hutcherson Family Y FLSA TYPE: Full-time, non-exempt JOB PURPOSE: Under the direction of the CDC Director and Lead Teacher, the Assistant Teacher is responsible for meeting the developmental needs of children birth through six years of age in a group setting. Childcare has special demands in that we care for children that in many instances cannot care for themselves. It is critical that the Assistant Teacher be mentally and physically fit to perform the duties outlined in this job description. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (not a complete list): Arrange the classroom to provide for learning centers and rotate toys routinely Maintain positive, open relations with all families Communicate all concerns and provide written documentation of all concerns to Director or Master Teacher Facilitate all classroom activities, participate, model, and observe as necessary Complete forms for all accidents or incidents with children, then have parent sign the form at pick-up time Maintain learning centers; older toddlers, preschoolers, and kindergarteners have space arranged for a variety of individual and small group activities including block building, dramatic play, art, music, science, math, manipulative, and quiet book reading Lift and carry children as need Attend all required staff meeting and trainings Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures regarding the prevention of abuse. Report any suspected abuse, neglect, or misconduct immediately to the appropriate supervisory staff. Attend mandatory training on abuse prevention, including recognizing signs of abuse, and reporting requirements. Other duties as assigned Requirements Required: High school diploma or GED CDA Must be at least 18 years of age and have experience working with ages 2-5 years. Strong human relation skills & organizational skills. Minimum 6 months experience working in a licensed childcare program. Excellent spoken and written English to serve as a role model, Bi-lingual preferred. Meet DHS & Health Department guidelines for staff.
