Description The position of CDL Driver – Construction Crew Member is a regular full-time, hourly position responsible for safely operating commercial vehicles while actively supporting field construction crews on utility and telecommunications projects. This role is not limited to driving responsibilities; the CDL Driver works as a hands-on member of the crew, assisting with material handling, job site setup, and daily project execution. This position ensures the safe and timely transportation of materials, tools, and equipment to and from job sites while maintaining compliance with DOT regulations and Company safety standards. The CDL Driver works out of the Statham, Georgia office and reports directly to the assigned Foreman or Construction Manager. This position typically works a day shift schedule; however, extended hours, evenings, weekends, holidays, and overnight travel may be required based on operational needs and project demands. Responsibilities Vehicle Operation & Transportation Safely operate commercial vehicles, including dump trucks, flatbeds, and other Company equipment. Transport materials, tools, and equipment to and from job sites in a timely and efficient manner. Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections and promptly report any maintenance concerns. Comply with all DOT regulations, traffic laws, and Company driving policies. Crew Support & Field Operations Actively assist construction crews with loading, unloading, staging materials, and general labor tasks. Support aerial and underground utility operations as directed by the Foreman. Help maintain organized, safe, and efficient job sites. Work collaboratively with crew members to meet daily production goals. Safety Compliance Follow all Company safety policies, DOT standards, and job site requirements. Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times when directed. Immediately report hazards, incidents, or near misses to leadership. Promote and model a strong Safety First culture. Communication & Coordination Communicate effectively with supervisors, project managers, and crew members regarding logistics and material needs. Coordinate delivery schedules to support job progress. Represent the Company professionally when interacting with customers, subcontractors, and the public. Vehicle & Equipment Maintenance Perform basic vehicle checks including fluid levels, tire condition, and cleanliness. Maintain accurate vehicle logs and documentation as required. Report mechanical issues to the maintenance department for timely resolution. Perform other duties as assigned. Position Requirements Formal Education & Certification Completion of a High School Diploma or attainment of a General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D). Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with no restrictions and a clean driving record. Knowledge & Experience Previous experience operating commercial vehicles, preferably in a construction or utility environment. Knowledge of DOT regulations and commercial vehicle safety standards. Experience working on construction or utility crews preferred. Ability to operate construction-related equipment safely and efficiently. Qualifications & Characteristics Applicants must be able to wear personal protective equipment (“PPE”) when on job sites or other locations as directed. Ability to lift, carry, and move materials up to 50 pounds without an accommodation. Ability to stand, walk, and work in warehouse, yard, and outdoor job sites for extended periods, up to a 12-hour shift. Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety. Dependable, team-oriented, and willing to assist with hands-on field work beyond driving duties. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and overtime as required. Work Environment Ability to work outdoors with exposure to outdoor conditions, active construction equipment, and varying weather conditions including humidity and seasonal temperature changes.
