Description
Description CDL Truck Driver / Mechanic Steed Industries is seeking a skilled CDL Truck Driver / Mechanic to join our team. In this dual-role position, you will spend approximately 20% of your time driving company trucks to transport concrete materials and equipment to and from job sites, while primarily serving as a mechanic responsible for maintaining and repairing our fleet and equipment. You will also diagnose and fix equipment while traveling to job sites, minimizing downtime, and supporting efficient field operations. This is a hands-on role ideal for a mechanically talented driver who thrives in a fast-paced construction environment. Key Responsibilities Driving & Transportation (approx. 20% of role): Safely operate company trucks with a valid CDL to transport concrete materials, equipment, and machinery to various construction sites. Independently load, unload, and properly secure loads (including forklifts, manlifts, trowels, rebar, concrete forms, etc.) while following all safety and regulatory requirements. Plan efficient routes, navigate job sites (including tight access and challenging terrain), and maintain accurate delivery logs, mileage records, and inspection reports. Mechanical & Maintenance (Primary Duties): Perform and oversee maintenance, repairs, and inspections on all company equipment, including heavy equipment, diesel engines, small engines, hydraulic systems, vehicles, and trailers to keep them field-ready. Respond to field service calls and perform on-the-road or on-site repairs to minimize equipment downtime. Maintain shop and yard cleanliness, organization, and safety standards. Coordinate equipment mobilization for job sites, manage maintenance schedules, repair logs, and documentation. Supervise and delegate tasks to the shop hand while providing guidance and support. Research and recommend cost-effective parts and supplies; advise on equipment replacement needs. Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report any issues. General: Collaborate with project managers, site supervisors, and management to coordinate logistics, schedules, and priorities. Enforce and follow all safety protocols, identifying hazards and opportunities for improvement. Requirements Qualifications Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a minimum of 2 years of CDL driving experience. Clean driving record: No DUI/DWI, no DOT accidents, and no serious traffic violations (including reckless driving, hit and run, driving with a suspended license, vehicular manslaughter, or speeding more than 15 mph over the limit). 5+ years of hands-on experience as a mechanic, preferably with heavy equipment, construction, diesel engines, hydraulics, and small engines (shop foreman/lead experience is a strong plus). Proven ability to diagnose and repair mechanical issues independently in both shop and field environments. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to develop creative solutions under time pressure. Physically fit and capable of lifting heavy materials, performing manual labor, and working in varying weather conditions. Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities. Strong verbal communication skills and ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and operational efficiency. Benefits Competitive compensation based on experience and qualifications (mechanic- level pay with driving component). Comprehensive benefits package, including health, vision, and dental insurance, 100% paid for employee and family. Paid Time Off (PTO) and paid holidays. Performance-based incentives and opportunities for professional development and training. Supportive, team-oriented work environment focused on accountability, growth, and high standards. If you are a reliable, safety-minded professional with strong mechanical expertise and CDL driving experience, we want to hear from you.
