Description
Description What we offer Educator + Researcher + Entrepreneur = You? The Center for Digital Technology and Management is a joint institution of LMU Munich and TU Munich. For over 27 years, we have educated interdisciplinary cohorts of innovators who have gone on to build companies worth over €8 billion, shape policy, and lead research groups across Europe and beyond. As part of the management team, you work at the intersection of startup-style institution building and academic research. You are co-running one of Europe's most ambitious innovation education programs while pursuing a doctorate on a topic you choose. The combination is what makes this role rare, so read on if this sounds like you! [More Information] Community & network You join one of Europe's most tightly knit innovation networks. Founders, researchers, and decision-makers in industry and politics. And a team of colleagues who genuinely support each other. Real leadership experience You will lead people, develop your own projects, and co-steer an organization with 27 years of history – with real responsibility and autonomy. International exposure Through close partnerships with universities abroad, you can spend time at international institutions, strengthening both your research and your professional network. Your academic identity Our environment is built for research that's digital, interdisciplinary, and flexible. Close ties to professors at LMU and TUM give you the ideal academic home. Partnerships with universities abroad strengthen your research profile further. Your mission Your four-year position blends doctoral research with hands-on work at the Center. In practice, the first 2.5 years lean more toward CDTM responsibilities, while the last 1.5 years shift focus toward completing your research while contributing to the CDTM. Education: Own a program format, end-to-end You design, build, and run your own education format within the CDTM curriculum. This ranges from conceptualising the syllabus to delivering lectures and workshops. You have a large degree of autonomy in how you shape it. Operations: Keep the engine running You support the team and the Center on operational topics: recruiting students for the program, organizing international partnerships for research and course exchanges, and exploring new collaborations for the Center. Strategy: Shape where the organization goes You contribute to the CDTM's strategic direction. This could mean evolving the curriculum, building a long-lasting governance structure, or building long-term financial sustainability. Your input has a direct impact on the organization's trajectory. Research: Develop your academic identity You pursue a doctoral degree under the supervision of a professor from the CDTM Board of Professors; this is our preferred setup. Supervision by other LMU or TUM professors is possible if they support the CDTM model: your time is split between CDTM work and your PhD (roughly 4:1 in semester phases and 2:3 during dedicated research phases), with CDTM responsibilities taking priority. Your topic is yours to choose. We value the intellectual diversity and the niche expertise different research areas bring to the community. Our environment is built for digital, interdisciplinary, and flexible research. Please note that we cannot offer lab-based or hardware-focused doctorates, but if your research can be done on a laptop, you are good to go! Your profile Passion for scientific research and teaching Interest in the economic, environmental and social aspects of innovation Independent, motivated to learn, and committed to contribute with and implement your own ideas Relevant practical experience in dynamic environments (e.g. technology, consulting, innovation, sustainability), and ideally in the development and implementation of innovation/teaching formats Excellent Master's degree with a humanities, business or technological orientation Initial ideas on possible topics/supervisor constellations for your doctorate Business fluent in English (C1) Please upload your CV, recent certificates as well as a brief cover letter Formal criteria Application We are currently looking to fill one full-time position on our management team, starting in August 2026. Please submit your application via Personio by 28 June 2026. Our in-person assessment days are planned for July 8. Contact If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Raunaq and Charlotte via application@cdtm.com. We are looking forward to reading your application! In our community, you will find unparalleled support to pursue your own and the organisation’s objectives. You will get the chance to collaborate with some of the brightest yet humble minds you have ever met.
