Bachelor’s degree plus three years experience or similar combination of education and experience preferred. Experience preferred with at-promise students, alternative educational systems, and adult educational practice. Must possess strong interpersonal, oral, and written English communication skills to engage & listen to students. Requires competency in using office computer applications and databases to perform various administrative and communication tasks. Requires a creative thinker who is knowledgeable of and able to coordinate available community resources. Also requires the ability to work well independently and as part of a team. Strong organizational skills are necessary to complete administrative tasks. This position requires a commitment to racial equity, as well as other forms of educational equity around class, ability, language, gender and sexuality. Responsibilities

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

The Center Coordinator acts on behalf of the Regional Director in their absence from the Center. In this capacity, the Coordinator leads the Center staff to maintain the continuity of high-quality programs and services for adult learners, facilitates staff communication and deployment of resources, and makes decisions impacting Center performance.
In addition, the Center Coordinator provides outreach, recruitment, assessment, and goal setting for new and returning students, and supports them in demonstrating readiness for VAL services. The Coordinator serves as the initial point of contact for new students, listens to and develops a relationship with the student to understand their educational needs and objectives, and provides enrollment and onboarding services. Coordinators administer a variety of assessments to support students on their educational journey with VAL and beyond. They develop and maintain community partnerships as part of a fabric of coordinated services and referral networks and support students in accessing programs and services to meet their needs and goals.
The Center Coordinator works closely with the Regional Director and collaboratively with advisors and teachers in the Regional Learning Center and the greater VAL community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Center Coordination
  • Work closely with the Regional Director to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the center.
  • Make decisions necessary to ensure efficient and effective center operations in the Regional Director’s absence
  • Conduct staff meetings as needed
  • Assist with training new staff
  • Work with VAL Administrative Support personnel to order and approve the purchase of supplies for students and the Center, as needed
  • Work with the Regional Director to develop new and manage existing relationships with partner organizations.
  • Work with the Regional Director to collect and enter data and run pertinent reports in the student database.
  • Attend Data Specialist training and meetings through both VT AOE and VAL.
  • Provide input regarding, but is not responsible for, staff reviews or time card approvals
  • Enrollment and onboarding support.
  • Explain VAL programs and offerings clearly to new students.
  • Guide students through the enrollment, intake and onboarding process.
  • Interview new students to better determine their educational goals & objectives.
  • Assess students to determine readiness and learning needs.
  • Includes certifications in proctoring various NRS approved assessments.
  • Refer students to other organizations & agencies as appropriate.
  • Develop a culture of student engagement moving forward with their educational advisor.
  • Outreach and recruitment support.
  • Inform staff of specific outreach efforts and build an inclusive process for outreach.
  • Identify best practices for outreach and recruitment.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of outreach strategies.

  • Provide basic, frontline customer service by responding to inquiries about VAL programs.
  • Maintain professional standards of confidentiality.
  • Participate in personal & professional development.
