Description POSITION TITLE: CENTER SUPPORT AIDE PROGRAM/LOCATION: SAFE HAVEN WELLNESS CENTER – ARROYO GRANDE POSITION SUMMARY: The Wellness Centers provide a place where individuals experiencing mental illness can enjoy a true sense of community. TMHA Wellness Centers create a welcoming environment designed to serve multiple age groups with a focus on community connection, wellness, recovery, advocacy, independence, and empowerment. Members learn new wellness tools and strategies to achieve personal goals while discovering that recovery can be a shared journey. The Center Support Aide of SLO Wellness Centers in Atascadero, Arroyo Grande, and San Luis Obispo is responsible for assisting with organization and direction of SLO Wellness Centers designed to assist adults in their journey to mental health wellness & recovery, as well as connect members and participants to their community. This position promotes trauma informed mental health wellness & recovery for the members and is responsible for having knowledge and skills in all aspects of the Wellness Center. The Center Support Aide will uphold and promote the Center philosophy as well as the philosophy of TMHA in all duties performed. This position promotes social interaction and support, encouraging members in the recovery process. HOURS/ SALARY: Part-time, non-exempt position. 24 hours per week. Anticipated hiring range is $20.00-$21.00 per hour. Responsibilities and Duties: 1. Functions as a support to members and participants of mental health services offering social support, connection to community resources, skills training, recreation activities, and assistance with developing or enhancing independent living skills. 2. Provides safe transportation to members on occasion, involves members in center activities, shops for program needs, and organizes leisure activities. 3. Facilitates group discussions and activities as needed. Research and coordinate material for subject matter. 4. Provides Curriculum Based Workshops on an ongoing basis to members and participants. Curriculums to include: prevocational skills, goal setting, social skills, self expression, critical thinking, positive thinking skills, budgeting skills, coping skills, symptom education, recreation skills, physical health education, problem solving, nutrition education, depression education, anxiety education, self- awareness, teamwork skills, money management, cultural awareness, interpersonal skills, meditation & relaxation education, and self –esteem. 5. Medi-Cal billing provides a critical portion of funding for this program. You are expected to reach documentation and billing goals as set by Program Manager and Director. All direct service staff are expected to spend at least 50% of their work time in direct service and support of clients, unless otherwise assigned by your supervisor. 6. Provides training, guidance, support, and problem solving to members, volunteers, peers and co-staff. Leads by example and empowers members to grow and expand their abilities and knowledge. 7. Promote, encourage and maintain trauma-informed practices in all services and activities. Practice and promote, both individually and in team meetings, TMHA’s Collaborative Communication Guidelines in order to facilitate clear, empathetic and person-centered communication. 8. Functions as a role model of Wellness & Recovery to members and participants with regard to training, communication, and work behavior. 9. Communicates both positive and constructive feedback clearly and in a timely manner with members/staff. Remains approachable and open for members/staff to communicate problems or ask questions. 10. Leads by example by empowering program members to grow and expand their abilities and knowledge. 11. Coordinates and implements specific activities or groups weekly. 12. Participates in record keeping and evaluation procedures. 13. Meets with and communicates program issues to the Center Supervisor and works as part of a collaborative team with peers, members, and the staff. 14. Attend necessary trainings and meetings as assigned by Program Manager or Program Supervisor. 15. Represents management positively and takes ownership of policies when enforcing them. When questions or issues with management arise, they are directed to management for resolution. Accepts constructive feedback from supervisor and others. 16. Works in collaboration with the Peer Advisory and Advocacy Team linking members and sharing resources and information. 17. Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Program Manager, Center Supervisor and Assistant Center Supervisor. Job Environment: 1. Moderate, physical activity; may include moving or lifting up to 50 lbs. 2. Involves risks which require safety precautions and the risk of exposure to potential crisis situations. Conditions of employment include: • Must be at least 18 years of age; possess a valid CA Driver’s License, at least 2 years driving experience, and DMV driving record that meets TMHA’s current vehicle insurance requirements. May be required to utilize personal reliable vehicle and auto insurance. • Must comply with a TB assessment (possibly a TB test if needed to confirm a negative tuberculosis result) and receipt of a criminal record clearance through fingerprinting. • Must be able to successfully complete First Aid and CPR training.
