Central Scheduling Representative Location: Blair Medical Associates – Altoona, PA Schedule: Part-Time | Monday–Friday | Day Shift Be the First Step in Exceptional Patient Care UPMC Altoona Regional Health Services is seeking a Patient Access Representative to join our team at the Blair Medical location. In this vital role, you’ll be the welcoming face and voice for patients, helping them access care with professionalism, empathy, and efficiency. Key Responsibilities Answer and triage calls using a multi-line phone system Schedule appointments based on physician templates and patient needs Obtain chief complaints to ensure appropriate scheduling Verify and update insurance and demographic information Escalate clinical concerns to appropriate personnel with accurate documentation Provide basic information such as directions, parking, and appointment prep Monitor patient waitlists and coordinate access to care Assist patients with Welcome Kiosks and AVS (After Visit Summary) Distribute new patient packets and ensure completion Attend department meetings and ongoing training sessions Support patients with questions about insurance and UPMC policies Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions Learn and apply third-party payer guidelines and reimbursement practices Why Join UPMC? Job Requirements Education: High School Diploma or equivalent (required) Associate’s Degree (preferred) Experience: 1 year of experience in a medical office, customer service, inbound call center (preferred), or other relevant healthcare setting will be considered Associate’s Degree plus 6 months of experience in a medical office, customer service, inbound call center (preferred), or other relevant healthcare setting (preferred) Skills & Knowledge: Experience with personal computer applications, including email Familiarity with office equipment (printers, scanners, etc.) Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills Ability to maintain confidentiality and remain professional under pressure Experience with medical terminology and multi-line telephone systems (preferred) Experience with electronic scheduling systems (preferred) Basic understanding of health insurance and third-party payer guidelines Ability to interact effectively with patients, families, physicians, nurses, insurance companies, and office staff Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: ACT 34 UPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Disability/Veteran
