Enrollment in an accredited Surgical Tech/Sterile Processing program or 1 year of UPMC experience preferred. Grandfathered technicians without certification must complete 10 hours of annual continuing education; certified staff must complete 10–12 hours per certifying body requirements. New hires in PA and NY must obtain certification within 18 months (MD excluded). Must be able to stand for full shifts and lift/push/pull up to 35 lbs. Accepted certifications: Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution or Certified Registered Central Service Technician (HSPA). Act 34 clearance required.
