  SUMMARY DESCRIPTION The Central Sterilization Technician is responsible for cleaning, assembling, and sterilizing all equipment, supplies and/or instruments.  The Central Sterilization Technician is responsible for helping to maintain the supplies inventory.     RESPONSIBILITIES * Cleans and decontaminates patient use items by taking apart instruments, rinsing, and soaking instruments and using washing/sterilization equipment. * Assembles, packages and/or terminally sterilizes patient use items. * Keeps required records such as biological testing and unit checks. * Performs required environmental and/or equipment maintenance procedures. * Strictly adheres to the Surgery Center’s policies and procedures relating to infection control and safety. * Participates in committees as assigned. * Performs other duties as needs arise.   QUALIFICATIONS * High school graduate or equivalent. * Must hold and maintain CST certification and follow AAMI guidelines. * One-year previous sterilization experience preferred, * Must be able to adapt to repetitive, short cycle operations. * Must be able to organize and prioritize work. * Must have some mechanical ability to operate large equipment, disassemble and assemble instruments, and have some familiarity with surgical instrumentation. * Mental and physical health sufficient to meet the demands of the position.     ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS * Surgery center setting. * Well-lighted, well-ventilated, adequate space. * Some exposure to communicable diseases and/or other conditions common to a clinical setting.   PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS * Requires sitting, standing, bending, and reaching 6-8 hours of the day. * Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. * Intermittent physical mobility/activity including walking, standing, sitting, light lifting, pulling, and pushing of carts, equipment, etc.  Must be able to bend body downward at the waist; be able to kneel.
Responsibilities
The technician is responsible for cleaning, assembling, and sterilizing all surgical equipment and supplies. They also maintain supply inventories and adhere to strict infection control and safety policies.
