JOB SUMMARY

Primary duties involve the collection, segregation and management of hazardous chemical wastes generated throughout Duke University and Duke University Hospital including clinics and research laboratories, with secondary duties including collection and management of hazardous pharmaceutical wastes, radiological, and universal wastes, etc. Performs work in accordance with all appropriate Federal, State, and local regulations and standards by OSHA, EPA, DOT, NRC, RCRA. Communicates with supervisor regarding the policies and procedures for assuring compliance. In exercising these functions, the person must be able to lift 50 lbs., manipulate 400 lb. drums, and be physically able to wear respiratory protection. Environments range from usual office conditions to environments where “immediately dangerous to life and health” (IDLH) atmospheres exist requiring the use of burdensome protective clothing and equipment. Where not extremely hazardous, work may be uncomfortable or unpleasant (i.e. high heat).

QUALIFICATIONS

• Knowledge of cleaning techniques and equipment used in restoration work.
• Familiarity with fire and water damage restoration practices.
• Experience with mold remediation and asbestos abatement is a plus.
• Proficient in using hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
• Basic construction knowledge is beneficial for performing repairs as needed.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.

• Perform cleaning and restoration tasks for properties affected by fire, water damage, and mold.
• Utilize hand tools and power tools effectively for various restoration projects.
• Conduct thorough assessments of damaged areas to determine the appropriate restoration methods.
• Execute mold remediation procedures in compliance with industry standards.
• Assist in asbestos abatement processes when required.
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment at all job sites.
• Collaborate with team members to ensure timely completion of projects.
• Provide excellent customer service by communicating effectively with clients regarding the restoration process.
