ABOUT US

The Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Quantum Computation and Quantum Communications (QC2), funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), was launched in 2014, renewed in 2019 and in 2024 with a new focus and shape. Its mission is to train the next generation of research leaders in the rapidly advancing field of quantum technologies.
The CDT recruits approximately a dozen postgraduate students each year and provides a unique cohort-based experience through a comprehensive 4-year PhD programme. The training combines academic excellence with practical, cross-disciplinary knowledge, preparing students to unlock the full potential of quantum computation and quantum communications.
Starting in 2024, the renewed CDT focuses on developing emerging research leaders in quantum computation and quantum communications. The programme delivers rigorous, collaborative training designed by a diverse team of UCL academics in partnership with an extensive network of industrial and academic collaborators.

ABOUT YOU

We are seeking a proactive, detail-oriented individual with excellent organisational and communication skills to join our Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) team. You will bring a strong track record in administrative support, ideally gained within a Higher Education or similarly complex environment, and demonstrate confidence in managing a diverse and busy workload.
You will be educated to at least GCSE level (including English and Maths) or have equivalent experience, with the ability to handle a wide range of administrative responsibilities. These include supporting meetings and committees, maintaining accurate records and systems, coordinating student-facing processes, and contributing to events and training delivery.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential, alongside a high level of IT literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams). You will be comfortable managing sensitive information, interpreting data to inform reporting, and producing clear, professional documentation to a high standard.
Experience of student administration, financial processes, or supporting research activities will be advantageous, as will familiarity with systems such as Portico or Je-S.

Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Centre Administrator plays a key role in supporting the effective day-to-day operations of the CDT. Working closely with the CDT Director, Centre Manager, and other key team members, the post-holder will provide comprehensive administrative support across all areas of Centre activity.
They will act as the first point of contact for the Centre, ensuring smooth coordination of communications, meetings, and events, including assisting with the organisation of CDT committee meetings, workshops, and other key activities.
Given the level of interaction required with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, the role demands a professional and proactive approach, as well as the ability to communicate with tact, diplomacy, and confidence.
