Key Responsibilities

  • Laboratory Operations and Staff Management:
  • Overseeing the day-to-day workflow, from receiving dental impressions to delivering finished products.
  • Supervising, training, and mentoring a team of dental technicians.
  • Developing and implementing efficient laboratory processes and procedures to maximize productivity.
  • Handling staff scheduling, performance reviews, and disciplinary matters.
  • Quality Control and Compliance:
  • Ensuring all dental prosthetics, such as crowns, bridges, dentures, and implants, meet high-quality standards.
  • Implementing and monitoring quality control systems to identify and correct any imperfections.
  • Staying up-to-date with industry regulations and safety protocols, and ensuring the lab remains compliant.
  • Communication and Client Relations:
  • Serving as the primary point of contact between the lab and dental professionals.
  • Communicating with dentists to clarify case instructions, troubleshoot technical issues, and provide advice on materials and techniques.
  • Managing client relationships and addressing any concerns or feedback.
  • Financial and Administrative Duties:
  • Managing the lab’s budget and controlling costs related to materials and labor.
  • Monitoring inventory levels and ordering new equipment and supplies as needed.
  • Maintaining accurate records and documentation for all cases and lab operations.
  • Troubleshooting technical issues with equipment and overseeing maintenance schedules.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Certified Dental Technician (CDT) Certification: This is a crucial credential, demonstrating advanced knowledge and skills in one or more dental technology specialties (e.g., Crown and Bridge, Ceramics, Orthodontics).
  • Experience: A minimum of several years of experience as a dental technician, with a progression into a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Technical Skills: In-depth knowledge of dental prosthetics, materials (porcelain, zirconia, etc.), and lab techniques. Proficiency with both traditional and modern digital technologies, such as CAD/CAM software and 3D printing, is often required.
  • Leadership and Communication: Strong leadership skills to motivate and manage a team, as well as excellent communication skills for effective interaction with staff and clients.
  • Organizational and Problem-Solving Skills: The ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize workflow, and solve complex production issues under pressure.
