Job Description: The Surgical Clinic (TSC) is a group of private practice surgeons representing many specialties of surgical practice to develop patient-focused, conveniently located places to give patients access to needed surgical procedures close to home. Since its founding in 1997, The Surgical Clinic has continued to attract talented surgeons, becoming one of Middle Tennessee’s most respected practices. TSC specializes in bariatric surgery, breast surgery, general surgery, plastic surgery, podiatry, surgical oncology surgery, vascular & endovascular surgery, and veins. In addition, TSC has established several Vascular Procedure Centers, TSC prosthetics, and accredited ultrasound labs. POSITION SUMMARY The Float Medical Assistant provides support to our patients and physicians in all clinical settings. This position will require travel due to changes in assigned location. The focus of the Float MA is to provide support to the clinics in need to ensure we are providing the best patient care. This role requires a strong individual with a positive attitude and solid background in the clinical setting. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Assist physician in clinical office setting to ensure patient care Triage patients and provide assistance during in office procedures Obtain vital signs accurately, understand normal vs. abnormal, and the escalation process Collect, label and document lab specimens Obtain documents from various EHR systems for results and reports Schedule interventions as directed such as imagining, surgeries, labs, etc. Obtain prior authorizations when needed for tests and/or surgeries Send referrals as directed and maintain good communication with community partners Communicate with patient’s care team when needed (i.e. new orders for skilled nursing facility/hospital) Triage patient phone calls and communicate provider instructions accurately Provide patient education for tests, pre/post-surgical care, medications, and other patient concerns Contact patients regarding test results as directed Contact pharmacies regarding medication orders/changes etc. Documentation in EHR of all patient care Maintain adequate stock of medications and supplies Keep patient rooms and nurse station clean Sterilize instruments Perform other related duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS Current LPN or current Medical Assistant License is preferred Maintain Quality OSHA Controls and HIPAA compliance Experience in charting into an electronic health record (eClinicalWorks experience is preferred) Experience in Microsoft programs (Outlook and Word) Ability to quickly learn common medications used in practice (name, action, and side effects) Ability to learn common surgeries and recognize/triage the complications associated with them General understanding of sterile technique, surgical equipment, and human anatomy PHYSICIAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical requirements listed are representative of those that may be faced by a Medical Assistant throughout their scope of employment.
