Job Description: Title: Certified Medication Aide Job Code: 00204XX Division: Senior Living Status: Non-Exempt Reports to: Charge Nurse/Unit Manager Revision date: March 2019 Supervises: n/a PURPOSE According to the prescribed policies and procedures of the organization including all applicable federal, state and local regulations and under the general supervision of the Charge Nurse/Unit Manager, the purpose of this position is to administer approved medications as prescribed by the resident’s physician and document the administration and effectiveness of the medications. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS • Per the delegation of the nurse, utilizes the Six Rights of Medication Administration and accurately records the administration of medications for residents as prescribed by the physician. Notifies the nurse immediately if a medication error occurs. • Observes and reports to the nurse, symptoms and conditions of residents that could be related to medication interactions, adverse drug reactions or medication side effects. • Determines and records effectiveness of medications in a timely and accurate manner as required by state and federal regulations. • Stores medications in a safe and accurate manner in accordance with established facilities policies and procedures and applicable state and federal regulations. • Monitors medications to ensure adequate accountability measures are taken when medications are ordered, received into the facility, administered and at change of shift as required by facility policies and procedures and applicable state and federal regulations. • Obtain, records and reports vital signs as indicated during the administration of medications. EXPECTATIONS • Demonstrates and maintains a positive, professional manner, manages time efficiently and effectively, provides leadership as a role model to promote a team approach, collaborates and participates in policy creation and appropriate problem solving methods. • Must adhere to all policies, procedures, terms and conditions set forth in the National Church Residences’ Employee Information Guide (EIG), the Code of Conduct, as well as any facility handbook, including but not limited to, corporate compliance, drug free workplace, safe work practices, all federal, state, local regulations and laws. • With respect to Resident Rights, ensures all care is provided with respect and dignity for the residents/clients, their families and the staff. Reports all complaints made by residents/clients and/or families to the appropriate supervisors, reports all allegations of abuse, misappropriation of funds/resident property and/or any other corporate compliance, drug free workplace, safe work practices, all federal, state and local regulations and laws. • Completes all annual education requirements timely, including but not limited to Compliance, Privacy, Security and HIPAA training and exhibits behavior as set forth by the Code of Conduct in the performance of their duties. • Performs other duties as assigned. JOB SPECIFICATION SHEET – CERTIFIED MEDICATION AIDE Education: Successful completion of the Certified Medication Aide course. Experience: One year as Residential Care Aide or certified aide. Mental: Must have good communication, comprehension, and interpersonal skills. Must have the ability to speak, read, write and understand English. Skills: Must have working knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Office Suite, and World Wide Web. Licensure: Certificate as a Certified Medication Aide. Vision: Normal: Consistent with standard workflow.
