Job Summary: The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) plays a vital role in supporting our dermatology providers and ensuring an exceptional patient experience. This position is ideal for newly certified or early-career CMAs seeking to build hands-on experience in a fast-paced, team-oriented dermatology practice. You’ll receive comprehensive on-the-job training in both medical and cosmetic dermatology while working closely with our providers, nurses, and patient care teams. Responsibilities: Prepare patients for dermatology exams and procedures by reviewing medical history and addressing patient concerns. Accompanies provider into the patient examination room in order to transcribe a history and physical exam, and documents accurately the provider’s encounter with the patient. Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; reviewing and/or recording medical history; taking vital signs; confirming purpose of visit or treatment. Acts as liaison between providers and support staff; mediating issues and problems as necessary. Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following, and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations. Monitors, maintains and stocks exam rooms. Accurately and thoroughly documents medical visits and procedures as they are being performed at the direction of the provider. Ensures that all clinical data, lab or other test results and the interpretation of the results by the provider are recorded accurately in the medical record. Generates and submits orders as directed by the provider. Provide direct assistance to physicians with surgical and medical procedures, such as excisions, skin biopsies, wart treatments, cosmetic treatments, etc. Provide wound care, suture removal, and post-procedure instructions to patients. Provide patient education including treatment plans, prescribed medication, and pre- and post- treatment care guidance. Accurately and thoroughly complete medical documentation in our EMR. Handle and label specimens for lab analysis following proper protocols. Perform clinical and administrative duties such as phlebotomy, instrument cleaning, phone calls, and scheduling. Comply with quality control and safety standards per CLIA and OSHA policies. All other duties as assigned. Requirements Required Skills/Abilities: Ability to manage multiple priorities. Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Professional demeanor and recognition of privacy considerations for patients and families. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to work well independently and as part of a team. Flexibility to travel to other locations as needed. Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Education and Experience:. Active Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification in Minnesota and in good standing. Previous experience in dermatology or a plastic surgery setting is preferred but not required. Prior experience providing direct patient care, scribing, or assisting with procedures is a plus.
