Position Details: Work Shift: Day Shift (United States of America) Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 Department: GPC Dresden Overview of Position: Provides patient care in the physician office setting. Assists providers and staff in coordinating patient care. Functions as a primary liaison between patients, families, staff and providers ESSENTIAL DUTIES 1. Assists physicians with examinations and other office procedures. 2. Schedules diagnostic tests, surgeries and pre-admission testing. 3. Performs initial-response screening following protocols approved by physician. 4. Performs a variety of tests and procedures including CLIA-waived tests, electrocardiography, respiratory testing, and phlebotomy including venipuncture and capillary puncture. 5. Prepares and administers oral and parenteral (excluding IV) medications and immunizations as directed by physician and permitted by state law. 6. Administers patient injections. 7. Calls prescriptions into pharmacy per direction of the physician. 8. Functions as liaison between physician, patient and patient’s family. 9. Practices Standard Precautions, including hand washing and biohazardous materials; applies principals of aseptic technique and infection controls. 10. Collects and processes specimens. 11. Maintains examination/treatment rooms, including inventory of supplies and equipment. 12. Recognizes and responds to emergencies. 13. Obtains, and records patient history; obtains vital signs and prepares patients for examination, procedure or treatment. 14. Accurately documents patient communication and clinical treatments, including medication and immunization records. 15. Prepares patient information packets. QUALIFICATIONS 1. High school diploma or equivalent. 2. Must have one of the following qualifications or obtain within six months from hire: (1) Certified Medical Assistant through appropriate board (i.e. American Association of Medical Assistants), (2) registered through appropriate board (i.e. The American Registry of Medical Assistants). a. To be eligible for NHA certification (organization proctored exam): Must have at least one (1) year of supervised clinical work experience within the last three (3) years OR have completed a training program within the health field within the last five (5) years. >>If hired into a fulltime CCMA position without previous clinical experience, must be able to complete the following within 1 year of hire date: a. must complete online coursework through NHA within 8 months b. completes a minimum of 1000 clinical hours provided through full time position c. be able to pass certification exam within 1 year of hire and after completion of above 2 criteria 3. CPR certification or obtain within 30 days of employment 4. Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology required. 5. Understanding of laboratory techniques required. 6. Knowledge clinical and diagnostic procedures. 7. Demonstrated pharmacology knowledge and ability to administer medication. 8. Knowledge of office practices, patient relations, and medical law and ethics. 9. Demonstrated understanding of various coding and reimbursement systems including ICD, CPT required. 10. Ability to analyze and interpret clinical data and excellent critical thinking skills to make appropriate interventions. 11. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
