Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) Department: Primary Care and Pediatrics Location: Highpoint Health Partners with Ascension Saint Thomas 55 Sunrise Park, Winchester, TN 37398 Reports To: Practice Operations Manager, Medical Group Services FLSA: Non-Exempt Position Summary The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) provides routine clinical and administrative support to the Primary Care and Pediatrics practice. This role assists physicians and nurses in delivering high-quality patient care, ensuring smooth daily operations, and maintaining a professional and compassionate environment for patients and families. Education & Experience Required: High school diploma or equivalent Required: Graduate of an accredited medical assisting program or equivalent training Preferred: One year of related clinical experience in a physician’s office or outpatient setting Licensure & Certifications Required: Current certification or registration as one of the following: Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) – must be obtained within 60 days of hire Required Skills Strong critical thinking, organizational, and communication skills Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment Demonstrates professionalism, discretion, and excellent patient service Capable of working independently and collaborating as part of a multidisciplinary team Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) and general office software Essential Functions Assist providers and nurses with patient assessments, treatments, and procedures Perform basic diagnostic testing and specimen collection (e.g., blood draws, swabs, urinalysis) Document patient encounters accurately in the EHR system and maintain confidentiality of records Monitor and report changes in patient condition to the supervising clinician Maintain medical equipment and supplies: clean, restock, reorder, and troubleshoot as needed Prepare examination rooms for patient visits and ensure a clean, organized, and safe environment Perform front-office duties as needed, including scheduling, reception, patient registration, and data entry Support clinical workflows to enhance patient throughput and overall experience Work Environment This position requires frequent standing, walking, and occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds. Work involves exposure to patients and potentially infectious materials; standard precautions and protective equipment must be used at all times.
