  Job title Certified Medical Assistant/Registered Medical Assistant (CMA/RMA) Reports to Lead Certified Medical Assistant Status Non-Exempt (Hourly $19.00 - $25.00)     Job purpose   The Certified or Registered Medical Assistant (CMA/RMA) is an integral member of the interdisciplinary medical team at Heartland Community Health Center. This role supports medical providers by delivering direct patient care, maintaining exam rooms and equipment, and performing designated clerical tasks.   Primary responsibilities include patient intake, obtaining vital signs, performing phlebotomy, and providing laboratory support. The CMA/RMA also serves as a key liaison between front desk staff, providers, and nursing team members to ensure seamless, patient-centered care throughout the clinic.   Duties and responsibilities *  Demonstrates a positive, patient-centered attitude and works in harmony with others, showing a strong commitment to Heartland’s mission and values. Actively supports team goals, contributes to group problem-solving, and participates in staff meetings. * Consistently maintains a caring, patient-focused demeanor, essential to delivering high-quality care. * Conducts daily exam room inspections to ensure all rooms are clean, orderly, and fully stocked with necessary medical supplies. * Interviews patients to obtain medical history, including current medications and allergies; collects and records vital signs such as height, weight, temperature, pulse, and blood pressure in the EHR. * Performs clinical procedures as directed by medical providers, including (but not limited to): EKGs, peak flow measurements, ear lavage, minor wound care, dressing changes, and vision/hearing screenings. * Administers vaccines and injections per provider orders. * Assists with laboratory procedures such as phlebotomy, urinalysis, dipstick tests, hematocrits, and glucose screenings. * Supports providers with patient exams, procedures, and treatments. * Maintains cleanliness and proper function of exam rooms, including sterilizing equipment and rotating supplies. * Ensures consistent availability of linens, medical equipment, and paper products to support smooth clinical operations. * Provides cross-coverage and support to other departments as needed. * Maintains a strong understanding of professional certification requirements and adheres to all state and federal regulations, including HIPAA, patient confidentiality, and safety guidelines. * Performs additional duties as assigned to support the clinic and care team. Qualifications * High school diploma or equivalent required. * Completion of a Medical Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant training program. * Must provide a certificate of graduation and proof of current certification. * On-the-job training accepted; however, prior experience in a healthcare environment is strongly preferred. * Proficient in or able to quickly learn electronic health record (EHR) systems, Microsoft Office, and other technology platforms. * Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively convey information to patients, providers, and team members. * Ability to establish and maintain effective, professional working relationships across departments. * Demonstrates commitment to Heartland’s guiding values of Compassion, Respect, Collaboration, and Integrity. * Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position. * Exhibits personal maturity, emotional intelligence, and clear, respectful communication. * Maintains composure and professionalism under pressure or in fast-paced situations. * Brings high energy, positivity, flexibility, and a strong sense of initiative to the role.
