About the Position:The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is responsible for providing quality care to residents both physically and emotionally to enhance quality of life. Providing basic care to residents, as well as assist them in daily activities they might have trouble with on their own, such as bathing, grooming, hygiene, dining, etc.

Responsibilities

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist residents with personal care including bathing, grooming, hygiene and placement of adaptive equipment
  • Explain procedures to residents before administering
  • Keep residents dry (changes gown, clothing, linen, etc., when it becomes wet or soiled)
  • Change bed linens and keep linens tight to avoid wrinkles from forming under residents
  • Make beds (occupied and unoccupied)
  • Handle linens according to infection control guidelines
  • Assist residents with bowel and bladder functions
  • Prepare residents for transporting to appointments, activities and social programs
  • Assist with lifting, positioning and transporting residents into and out of beds, chairs, bathtubs, wheelchairs, lifts, etc., in keeping with specific resident safety needs
  • Assist residents in ambulation with or without self-help devices as instructed
  • Perform restorative and rehabilitative procedures as instructed
  • Accurately measure and record heights and weights
  • Accurately measure and record temperatures, pulses, respirations and blood pressures (TPRs and B/P) as instructed
  • Empty urinary drainage bags and record amount in record; report any irregularities to nurse
  • Ensure call lights are within reach of residents and answer call lights promptly
  • Ensure that residents who are unable to call for help are checked frequently
  • Report all changes in residents’ condition to supervisor as soon as practical
  • Ensure that residents’ personal care needs are being met in accordance with residents’ wishes
  • Complete appropriate charge and inventory slips and monitor supply inventory daily
  • Clean instruments and equipment and return to proper area after use
  • Straighten dresser tops and stands
  • Maintain cleanliness of resident units, central bathing area, treatment and supply rooms, workrooms and linen closets; clean bedpans, urinals and commodes; wash basins and emesis basins; sanitize bath tub after each resident’s use; clean floors if resident is incontinent; wipe spilled foods and liquids
  • Provide post-mortem care as instructed
  • Turn bedfast residents as instructed
  • Provide Range of Motion exercises
  • Provide daily indwelling catheter care
  • Provides perineal care

FOOD SERVICE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assure that residents are positioned appropriately for meals
  • Assure that appropriate utensils are within reach of residents
  • Serve food trays and assist with feeding as indicated
  • Keep residents’ water pitchers clean and filled with fresh water (on each shift) and within easy reach of residents
  • Deliver and document all a.m., p.m., and bedtime snacks and supplements
  • Provide hydration to all residents according to center policy

ADMISSION, TRANSFER AND DISCHARGE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Make residents comfortable and orient as necessary
  • Inventory and store residents’ personal possessions as instructed
  • Assist with loading/unloading residents from vehicles as necessary
  • Establish and maintain good public relations with residents, families and other center guests and show empathy toward residents

CARE PLAN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in care conference as indicated and follow individual resident care plans

ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Report observations concerning structural, equipment, and furniture defects and malfunctioning to appropriate personnel and record in work order binder
  • Utilize supplies and equipment properly and without waste
  • Perform any miscellaneous work assignments as may be required

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Adhere to the policies and procedures of the business with the highest practical standards
  • Participate in and maintain current on all training and education required by the company
  • Communicate effectively with all members of the staff and business partners
  • Provide feedback to others for continuous quality improvement of the entire organization
