Venesco is recruiting for two Certified Nursing Assistants to provide services in the Ralph H. Johnson Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Charleston, SC. This is an excellent opportunity to make a difference in the lives of those who have served our country! Hours: Agency nurses assigned to Charleston VA Inpatient Psych unit can expect to work 12-hour shifts, with alternating weekend shifts preferred. Duties: The Certified Nursing Assistants provide basic, appropriate, effective interventions to individual patient needs according to established facility policies, safety standards and procedures within Med/Surg & Inpatient Psych units. The contract CNA refers to the professional RN when deviations and problems not covered in the assignment occur. The contract CNA anticipates the needs of professional staff and works with them as a team member. Contract Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) performs requirements with minimal monitoring by a Registered Nurse (RN) provides basic, appropriate, effective interventions to individual patient needs according to established facility policies, safety standards and procedures. The contract CNA refers to the professional RN when deviations and problems not covered in the assignment occur. The contract CNA anticipates the needs of professional staff and works with them as a team member. Performs a range of personal nursing care which includes feeding, walking, lifting, turning patients, providing related hygiene care to patients using specialized equipment receiving oxygen or suction therapy. Performs a range of diagnostic support duties which include taking, recording, and reporting to the nurse deviations in vital signs and changes in patients’ condition such as diabetic, uremic coma, insulin shock, gastro-intestinal hemorrhage and reporting them to the nurse or doctor. Assists the doctor in a variety of diagnostic examinations such as lumbar punctures, liver biopsy, bone marrow examinations and emergency procedures. Assembles necessary equipment and positions patients, collects, labels and transports specimens to the laboratory. Checks patients frequently during and following procedures for changes in patient’s condition. Escorts patients to and from diagnostic studies. Cleans and cares for equipment used in oxygen and suction therapy, frame beds and reports equipment in need of repair. Performs a range of treatment procedures that include changing simple dressings. Cares for patients with infection, communicable diseases, and those in infection isolation. Cares for patients receiving oxygen via cannula or mask as well as ventimask, patients with chest therapy and postural drainage. Cares for patients with condom catheters as well as indwelling Foley catheters. Administers basic life support measures. Verbally provides information to the nurse for inclusion in the Nursing Care Plans. Documents vital signs. Enters information about the patients’ condition in the patients’ chart. Assists with completion of patients’ admission history. Promotes physical independence by supervising patents in self-care activities including eating, dressing, application of prosthetic devices and braces. Instruct patients on pre- and post-operative care based on general information provided by a doctor or nurse. The Contract Nurse Assistant will conduct inventories upon admissions and as needed to include, but not limited to, contraband search, ongoing evaluations of the environment of care. Provide 1:1 care as a Patient Safety Partner as needed on and off the unit. Accompany and/or transport patients to appointments/procedures as necessary. Performs EKGs as requested. Obtains and records temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respirations, pulse oximetry, height, weight, I&O’s, and blood sugar for all patients according to providers orders and reporting all abnormalities immediately to RN. Recognizes potentially hazardous conditions on the unit, observing, managing, engaging, and documenting disturbed behaviors while engaging those behaviors and reporting to the Registered Nurse. May be required to work with COVID 19 positive patients and Patients Under Investigation (PUI), for COVID 19. Requirements Certification: The minimum requirement for all certified nursing assistants assigned to the Medical Center shall include a current CNA certification from any state. Experience: All contract personnel will have a minimum of two-year direct patient care experience within the last three years in the field. All Certified Nurse Assistants shall have at least a minimum of 1-year current experience (must have worked within the last six months) in a medical/surgical unit, Long Term Care/Nursing Home setting, or an inpatient psychiatric unit. Life Support Certification: All Certified Nurse Assistant must have certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) by an American Health Association vendor. Personnel must be able to demonstrate competence in providing CPR and have current basic life support (BLS) certification. Venesco, LLC, is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer.
