QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS

  • Must hold a Canadian Pedorthic certification or be board eligible
  • Minimum 3-5 years related experience in clinical capacity of foot orthotics and custom footwear (design, fitting and fabrication)
  • Demonstrated experience in custom footwear production process
  • Possess knowledge and experience with the use of computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM)
  • Demonstrated manual dexterity skills for clinical and technical work
  • Must be able to work efficiently both in a team and individual environment
  • Flexibility and adaptability to address fluctuating volumes and complex patient needs
  • Ability to absorb new ideas quickly
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Responsibilities

The Sunnybrook Centre for Independent Living (SCIL), within Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, provides specialized services to help people function at their highest level through multidisciplinary clinics, assessment and customized manufacturing of prosthetics, orthotics and footwear. Our goal in pedorthics is to improve mobility by offering comprehensive foot support including custom foot orthotics, orthopaedic footwear modifications and custom made footwear. In this role you will provide effective, evidence-based assessment and treatment planning including designing, fitting and modifying custom footwear and orthotics.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary setting with our team of Physician Specialists, Pedorthists, Podiatrists, Orthotists, Prosthetists, Physical Therapists, and Technicians.
  • Assess and provide treatment planning for pedorthic needs including custom made footwear and custom foot orthotics.
  • Fit, fabricate, adjust and dispense custom footwear and foot orthotics.
  • Fabricate custom shoe lasts and complete laboratory orders.
  • Possess solid knowledge of the production of custom foot orthotics and footwear.
  • Provide quality assurance and support to the technical team in all areas of custom footwear and foot orthotic manufacturing.
  • Provide education to patients and/or their caregivers to promote functional independence and to achieve and maintain optimal health outcomes.
  • Prepare detailed reports for the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) and liaise with WSIB case managers and/or nurse consultants as needed regarding the care plan for injured workers
  • Maintain current chart/patient records with clinical and technical information.
  • Work collaboratively to meet monthly revenue and volume targets.
