Description Job Summary: Under the direction and supervision of a physician, and using Standardized Procedures, the CSTFA provides high-quality, cost-effective patient care by performing surgical preparation procedures, perioperative and post-operative procedures, and assists in performing surgical and other procedures. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Ø Assists in performing surgical procedures and other procedures consistent with the standards of care and practice guidelines. Ø Will work as the first assist during surgical procedures, and/or perform suturing. Ø Assists with room turnover to improve Perioperative efficacy. Ø Knowledge and competency in OR technology and central service. Ø Communicate effectively with patients, visitors and other health care providers. Ø Ensure availability of supplies and equipment Ø Performs housekeeping duties as necessary. Ø Utilize sterile technique while setting up and assisting physician. Ø Assist in direct patient care when necessary. Ø Functions as a surgical scrub technologist when requested. Ø Participate in call schedule. Ø Maintain a clean and organized work environment Ø Ability to help develop appropriate protocols and keep protocols up to date. Ø Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain a working relationship with patients, physicians and other team members. Ø Exhibits a professional manner with a high degree of courtesy, tact and poise when interacting with physicians, anesthesia providers, employees, patients and visitors. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: · As assigned. KNOWLEDGE/SKILL/ABILITIES: · Basic Qualifications: · Knowledge and competency in OR technology and central service. · The CSTFA practices perioperative nursing and must have acquired the necessary specific knowledge, skills and judgment. · The CSTFA under the supervision of the surgeon during the intraoperative phase of the perioperative experience. · In order to perform those functions considered to be first assistant to the surgeon, the CSTFA must adhere to standardized procedures. · One-year CSTFA experience strongly preferred. · Must meet CSTFA requirements. AGE-RELATED COMPETENCIES: Demonstrates the basic knowledge and skills necessary to identify age-specific patient needs appropriate for this position. Information Management: Treats all information and data within the scope of the position with appropriate confidentiality and security. Risk Management/Quality Management/Safety: Cooperates fully in all Risk Management, Quality Management, and Safety Activities and Investigations. MINIMUM POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: · Education: Must meet CSTFA First Assist requirements. · Work Experience: One-year CSTFA experience strongly preferred. · Training: Current CSTFA Certificate required, · License/Certification: Ø BLS certification required. ENVIROMENTAL CONDITIONS: Work environment consists of daily patient contact, which may include exposure to blood, or other body fluids.
