This assistant performs various tasks to support perioperative services. It requires thinking on your feet and handling the operating room with diligence and care, ultimately providing the best quality operative care to the patient.Do you hold yourself to a higher standard? If so, we have a special place waiting for you.WHAT YOU WILL DO - Assist in the cleanup of the surgical environment after a procedure, ensuring the operating room is cleaned and set up for turnover to the next procedure. - Assist in updating clinical resources such as instrument and preference lists and orientation aids. - Conduct hemostasis procedures including the application of electrosurgical unit to clamps, vessels, and tissue, sponging bodily fluids and stylizing suction techniques. - Conduct various types of wound closure and suturing, applies skin staples and appropriately approximates the skin to best facilitate the healing process. - Perform retractor placement and manipulation, and management of instruments in the operative field to prevent obstruction of the surgeon’s view; anticipate exposure needs based on knowledge of the surgeon’s preference, procedure, and anatomical structures. - Prepare for surgical procedures by obtaining appropriate instruments, supplies and equipment and appropriate records for specific surgical procedures; open surgical supplies/equipment, clean and prepare instruments for sterilization process and restocks pre-operative carts. - Provide postoperative assistance by selecting and applying appropriate dressings, securing drainage systems, conducting room turnover, and transport of the patient to bed and to PACU as necessary. - Recognize appropriate changes and updates procedure cards as needed. - Scrub basic and complex surgical procedures for general, orthopedic, OB/GYN, genitourinary, otorhinolaryngology, neurosurgical procedures, and other surgical procedures. WHAT IT TAKES TO SUCCEED - Adapt to high volume and high stress areas. - Lead and coach others. - Customer service skills. - Knowledge of patient handling techniques and procedures and protocols necessary to provide patient safety. - Effectively communicate verbally and in writing. - Knowledge of surgical procedures and surgical instrumentation, supplies, equipment, sterilizers and sterilization. - Data entry. - Equipment maintenance and repair. - Infection control. Qualifications - Required High School Diploma/GED - Required Certificate - 1 year Sugery Experience Preferred - Certified First Assistant (CFA) - . - Basic Life Support Program (BLS) - American Heart Association
