Description
We have a new need for four Certified Surgical Technologists at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego, CA. CORE Duties: Perform the full spectrum of sterile techniques, setting up surgical trays, preparing and draping patients for surgery, and assisting with post-operative dressings. Ensure surgical packs are cleaned and packed for sterilization after every procedure, to include restocking surgical supplies. Maintain a clean, safe environment for the patient either by active participation in the cleaning of clinical spaces, operating rooms, and medical equipment, or by guiding other personnel in the environmental maintenance. Certified Surgical Technologists pull supplies for next day cases, perform scrub duties for surgical procedures, prepare and maintain sterile fields, anticipate surgeon needs, handle surgical instruments and supplies, and comply with sterile processing and infection control standards. Schedule: Monday - Friday 6:45am - 11:00pm. Shifts will normally be scheduled for an 8-hour or 10-hour period, to include an uncompensated 30-minute or 60-minute lunch break, respectively. In no instance will the Full Time Equivalent (FTE) or Part Time Equivalent (PTE) employee be required to provide services more than 80 hours per two-week period. No on-call, or Weekends! Minimum Qualifications: Education: Certificate - Graduate from Surgical Technology program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or completion of a formal training program provided by any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces (Army, Navy, or Air Force) for surgical technicians, surgical technologists or operating room technicians. Experience: Must have at least one year of recent post-grad clinical experience within the past 2-years as a Surgical Technician or Operating Room Technician. Minimum one year of recent Operating Room scrub experience (within the last year) Knowledge of aseptic technique and surgical instrumentation Certification: Certified as a Surgical Technologist (CST) from The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or certified as a Tech-in-Surgery (TS-C) from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) or possess a Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) certification as a surgical technician and/or operating room technician. Life Support Certification: Current AHA or ARC BLS Healthcare Provider certification. Security: Must possess ability to pass a Government background check/security clearance.
