POSITION SUMMARY

The CWI will be involved in ensuring customers’ requirements have been met. With respect to weld size, bead formation, weld penetration. Position also includes the review of powder coated products ensuring cure, adhesion and DFT requirements. This position is part of our QA team and can/will support other quality functions.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • A minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent such as a GED, is required.
  • Technical school and/or practical experience is highly preferred.

EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • American Welding Society’s (AWS) Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) designation preferred.
  • Experience in a manufacturing/steel fabrication environment is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of arc welding processes for carbon, stainless and alloy metals are preferred.
  • Familiarity with powder type coatings preferred.
  • Familiarity w/ AWS & Mil-STD specifications / codes desired.
  • Able to physically perform testing: dye-penetrant, magnetic particle, dry film thickness and others that may be required by specifications.
  • Good understanding of shop math (fraction to decimal) and ability to read tape measure, and measuring tools (caliper, micrometers) preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints desired.
  • Good written and oral communication skills required.
  • Good problem-solving capabilities are desired.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365.
  • Experience working in a distribution or manufacturing organization preferred.
  • Ability to read blueprints a plus.

Responsibilities

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Foster a culture of safety awareness & prioritization.
  • Ensure that quality standards are met; champion quality ownership of work center.
  • Execute elements of the company’s quality assurance manual and quality assurance procedures pertaining to the inspection of products in house.
  • Assist in maintaining and developing the inspection program.
  • Perform in-process inspections including dimensional verification and coating inspections; perform additional product testing as required; maintain records of inspections and results. Verify finished product’s dimensions and their conformance with drawings, work order specifications.
  • Daily Floor Inspections of documentation, weld inspections general overview of part fit-up, visual weld inspection, review and development of welding WPS’s & PQR’s, compliance of welding credentials and documents.
  • Visual Inspection (VT criterion) of welded joints (weld size, bead formation, weld penetration) of work in progress and of completed units for compliance and perform visual examination of welded joint to detect flaws (cracks, cold weld, spatter, and undercuts, etc. and other mandated specifications) using flashlight, magnifying glass.
  • Perform other NDT inspections (PT, MT, etc.) as required.
  • Assist in inspecting and releasing of received raw materials, supplied components, supplied products, finished company products after ensuring compliance to ALL (drawings, PO, WO, Specifications, Standards, MTR, etc..) requirements with respect to both dimension and documentation.
  • Review material test reports (MTR) as required.
  • Assist with the training of production employees.
  • Conduct auditing in both products and processes and prepare findings report as required.
  • Communicate and interact with shift supervisors, operations manager, engineering, and other quality personnel about quality related issues and perform other duties as required and as per direction from management.
  • Enforce all company rules and policies; communicate issues or concerns with leadership.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-department staff, including Operations, Quality, and Technical Services.
  • Perform any other tasks or duties as assigned by the division and/or corporate management team.
