Position: Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) – Aerospace/Defense
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) with a background in aerospace welding and a degree in Welding Engineering. This role will be critical in upholding welding quality to AWS D17.1, ASME, and other industry standards to ensure customer satisfaction and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform visual, dimensional, and NDT weld inspections per AWS D17.1, ASME, and aerospace standards
  • Interpret engineering drawings, weld symbols, and technical specifications for inspection criteria
  • Ensure compliance with aerospace quality standards and internal documentation requirements
  • Collaborate with welding engineers, technicians, and QA teams to resolve weld discrepancies
  • Prepare and maintain detailed inspection reports, non-conformance reports, and audit documentation
  • Support and prepare for internal/external audits including NADCAP and AS9100
  • Assist in development and approval of WPS, PQR, and WPQ
  • Train and mentor junior inspectors and weld technicians
  • Conduct and evaluate destructive testing methods (tensile, bend, impact, macro/microstructure evaluation)

Required Qualifications

  • AWS Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) certification (AWS D17.1 required)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering or related technical field

  • Strong ability to interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and technical drawings
  • In-depth knowledge of aerospace materials, joining methods, and welding processes
  • Familiar with NDT methods (VT, PT, MT, RT, UT)
  • Proficient in destructive testing (macro etch, tensile, bend, impact testing)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to safety and precision quality

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting NADCAP or AS9100 audits
  • Additional NDT certifications (Level II or III)
  • Familiarity with digital inspection tools and quality management systems (QMS)
  • Knowledge of Layered Process Audits (LPA) and internal audit standards

Work Environment & Physical Expectations

  • Exposure to manufacturing environments including fumes, airborne particles, chemicals, and loud noise
  • Frequent standing, walking, lifting (50+ lbs), bending, and use of close and distance vision
  • Occasional use of inspection equipment and welding stations for hands-on analysis
