OUR OPPORTUNITY

In support of Fortescue’s focus on green energy and our carbon neutrality targets, one of our key initiatives is the development and commercialisation of a portfolio of new energy generation, storage and distribution technologies. Based at the St George office, we are looking for an experienced CFD specialist to contribute to Numerical modelling and Mechanical Engineering Design, to bring multiple novel electrochemical-based energy technologies along the technology and commercial readiness scales, and ultimately to deliver commercially viable next generation products for multiple Alternative Energy markets.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s degree or higher in Mechanical, chemical, or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in developing CFD analyses
  • Demonstrable skillset in Ansys for modelling of external and internal fluid flow, thermal system design, and multiphase electrochemical reactions
  • Development of HPC cluster to facilitate CFD work
  • Proficiency in Python and C for code development and optimisation
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to find innovative solutions
  • Ability to bring a flexible mindset, challenge traditional thinking, and be prepared to work outside the comfort zone
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills
  • R&D Experience in electrolyser and Direct Electrochemical Reduction technologies are highly favourable
  • Experience with multi-phase caustic slurry fluids rheology is highly regarded
  • Familiarity with machine learning tools is also highly regarded.
Responsibilities
  • Develop high-quality models of mechanical and fluid systems to assist in driving good engineering decisions
  • Develop and maintain HPCs for simulation works
  • Collaborate with scientists and engineers to bring novel renewable and carbon-free energy technologies to life
  • Contribute to conceptual and detailed design of novel energy technology systems, including development of devices, their control systems and user interfaces
  • Work with R&D scientists to tailor laboratory experiments to inform design and operation of engineering scale facilities.
