Description

Sinai Health System and the University of Toronto are seeking applications for a Clinician Scientist to become the inaugural Chair in Rheumatoid Arthritis Excellence and Discovery at the Sinai Health System. The effective start date of the appointment is negotiable but expected to be January 1, 2026.
The Division of Rheumatology is seeking to advance the frontiers of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) care, research, innovation, and advocacy. Sinai Health has been recognized as an international centre of excellence in RA and our program has made discoveries and multiple contributions over the years. In a ground-breaking approach, we aim to seamlessly integrate our multimodal expertise in RA with the ultimate goal of enhancing patient outcomes. Aligned with Sinai Health System’s dedication to leading in the management of complexity, the Chair in Rheumatoid Arthritis Excellence and Discovery will spearhead initiatives focused on promoting advances in person-centered care.
The successful candidate will be part of a large, academically successful rheumatology unit with an active clinical role aligned with divisional and departmental priorities. The Division of Rheumatology incorporates exemplary clinical care with an active clinical research program and a strong presence in medical education at the internal medicine, subspecialty, and fellowship levels.
The successful candidate must hold or be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor at the University of Toronto. He/she must hold an MD degree and have successfully completed approved postgraduate subspecialty training in rheumatology resulting in recognized certification as a rheumatologist. He/she must have, or be eligible for, licensure in Ontario. Candidates should have graduate training in an area of scholarship that aligns with their research and scholarly endeavours. This position is for a 5-year term, and renewable following a successful review. The successful candidate will report directly to the University of Toronto and Sinai Health System leadership for the Division of Rheumatology and the Department of Medicine.
The successful applicant should have leadership experience and an established track record of achievement in collaborative clinical/basic/translational research and creative professional activity. These attributes should be supported by experience in clinical teaching and supervision. He/she should be a national / international expert in his/her field. She/he will be expected to develop a successful strategic plan and fundraising program for RA research within an academic health sciences hospital. Academic excellence will be assessed by review of applicants’ peer-reviewed publications, research grants, invitations to, and presentations at, significant conferences and events, awards, and accolades.
Academic rank, job description, salary and contractual arrangements will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. The successful candidate would also have a primary clinical researcher appointment at the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute. Remuneration and start-up funding is multi-sourced and includes base salary support, commensurate with the job description, funding through the alternate funding Plan, the funds from the endowed Chair and clinical (fee-for-service) billings. The Chair is endowed at $3 Million and is resourced to provide annual revenues to be used for both direct Chair support and scholarly activities, with expenditures to be approved by the Hospital Chief of Rheumatology.
