Status: Part-time (approximately 12-16 hours per week), Exempt Reports to: Associate Dean Supervises: Department Faculty Responsibilities include: * Providingprincipal management and oversight of Longy’s graduate program inJazz and Contemporary Music. * Beingon campus (offering regular office hours) during the period of August 20 to June 15. * Overseeingdepartment offerings and events, including courses, concerts,first year recitals,seminars, workshops,admissions panels,etc. * Developingand executingshort-term programmatic, artistic, and curricular activitiesin JCM.  * Organizingand teachingdepartment seminars that supplement thestudenteducational experience by teaching how to give/receive feedback in public settings and by emphasizing the importance of diversity in repertoire. While the occasional guest is welcome, the responsibility belongs to the chair.  * Managingday-to-day student and faculty issues, including disciplinary matters with the support of the Associate Dean.  * Managingand evaluatingfaculty,assistingwith course and performance improvement whenever necessary.  * Attendinglive auditions and coordinatinga panel of faculty toadjudicatewith the help of Admissions.  * Working with theDirector of Admissions,assigningadmitted students to studio instructors.  * Spearheading and implementingrecruitment and retention strategies, in collaboration with the Admissions staff. * Academic advisingand careercoaching ofdepartment majors. * Managingmonthly departmentfacultymeetingsduringthe academic year. * Serving as a member ofthe Conservatory AcademicCouncil (CAC) andattendingallbi-weekly meetings of the CAC throughout the academic year; working with other academic managers in furthering the mission ofLongy. * Attendingall full faculty meetings and administrative staff meetings throughout the year, including the summer months. * ManagingGraduate Fellows (student workers) as needed. * Managingthedepartment budget. * In accordance withthe employee handbook, coordinatingall festival, performance, and recruitment travel with your supervisor to ensure all duties are executed properly andin a timely manner.  * Additionalduties, as assigned by the Associate Dean. QUALIFICATIONS * Qualified candidates willpossessan outstanding record as a musician, artistic curator, and educator. * Advanced degree (MM, MAT, MME or equivalent) in Music and/or Music Education, with a minimum of three years of teaching experience in a collegiate, university, or conservatory setting. * Track recordof managerial experience and proven leadership. * Track recordof developing curriculum and designing music projects with measurable outcomes. * Strong teaching and facilitation skills, including a thorough understanding of music education principles. * Obvious commitment to diversity, equity,and inclusion. * Proven ability to build andleveragerelationships with diverse audiences and partners. * Excellent verbal and written communication skills with exceptional attention to details. * Demonstrated ability to plan strategically, prioritize time, and manage implementation of plans in fast-moving, changeable environments. * Ability to work evening and weekend hours, as needed, as Longy hostsnumerousperformances. Compensation Chair compensation is re-evaluated yearly, prior to the start of the next academic year. Chair compensation is calculated based on department size, which takes into account the number of students, faculty, classes, and the corresponding administrative expectations. Compensation may increase OR decrease year to year based on these variables. Responsibilities

The Chair provides principal management and oversight of the graduate program in Jazz and Contemporary Music, overseeing department offerings, events, and developing programmatic and artistic activities. Responsibilities also include managing day-to-day student and faculty issues, faculty evaluation, budget management, and serving on the Conservatory Academic Council.
