The Philosophy Department is a medium size department in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, with an active and enthusiastic faculty supported by 4 permanent staff. We have a very successful graduate program of about 30 MA students, while the undergraduate program has been growing at a steady pace. Responsibilities

This position provides confidential secretarial and administrative support to the Chair and the Graduate Program of the Philosophy Department. As Chair’s Assistant, the incumbent assists the Chair with faculty appointments, renewals, tenure and promotion, leaves, salary reviews; handles routine and general problems, preparation of reports, requests for information; creates, reviews, archives and maintains electronic and paper-based files and records; provides support to Department Committees and administrative staff; arranges travel and provides support services for events, workshops, and seminars. As Graduate Program Assistant, the incumbent provides administrative support to the Graduate Program Chair and the Manager, Academic and Administrative Services; responds to requests for information primarily dealing with graduate program admission, registration, scholarships and awards, and graduation procedures; conducts preliminary graduate program admission and progress reviews and coordinates program admissions and scholarships; processes reports, forms and documents by checking completeness and accuracy, initiating follow-up, and routing materials; creates and maintains student information system records; assists with orientation events, meetings and thesis defenses; and updates graduate program information on the website.
